staggered vs side by side, with same hp what is MPH difference???
say same boat, same engines. both boats are dialed in the best they can be. what is the difference speed wise?????????

On calm water not much if any- over rough water the difference can be substantial
You wont need as much tab to keep the nose down - the boat wont "want" to fly as much. Service is easier by multitudes. Uncle Dave |
the 33 powerplay with stag. 500's ran 84, so not much over conventional boat with side by side and full cabin which run 82+. I assume you thinking of re-re-configuring your boat.

nah im just trying to figure out how dialed in my boat is compared to when they raced it in staggered configuration........it has about the same HP, maybe weighs a couple hundred pounds more right now with the interior

I asked Mark McManus this question many, many years ago. He said:
"Staggered engines make the boat faster in rough water." |
What is the difference around the docks?
|
They are a tiny bit easier to crab leg in and out because the weight isnt all in the a$$..

Can't speak to the Power Plays, but in the case of the 35 Fountain the staggered set up is a good 8 - 10 mph faster as well as better handling and balance.

Donzi Comps all went staggered after the initial ones (built mostly for F-2 racing). Definitive speed increases, not sure exact numbers. My understanding is that staggering the motors moves the drives closer together and thus creates more of a singular thrust toward the center of the boat. By staggering the motors it also provides better balance by moving the one motor forward and putting them both lower into the bottom of the V. It does make working on them in the bilge much easier too!
It is a little more difficult docking because the drives are more centered and not as far apart but if you throttle up the reversing side to compensate for the forward overpowering, it works just fine. |
