Will XM stay around?
Whats the prognosis do you think it will just get bigger? or is it gonna fade away????
|
I'd say, since it is becoming an option on almost every car, it's not going anywhere.
Now I just need to look into what technology is avaiilable to recieve a signal without the monthly fee. This nickel and dimin people to death crap get's on my nerves. They should build it into the cost of the reciever. |
no question
XM rocks it is definitely here to stay!! once you have your boat rigged with it you'll know why.

If they would give the radio away...I would get a sub
The 10.00 a month ain't nuttin....the radios are 300.00 + |
Finally got it installed in the Excursion today. The dealer had six units when we talked to him Saturday. Now he is out. Installed the last two today, one in a Class 8 semi and the other in our X. We were told by the dealer that it would take about 45 minutes to an hour to activate. I called XM at 3:00 PM today with credit card information. The customer service agent appologized to me and said it would take between 12 to 24 hours before I could get anything besides the preview channel because they are so overwhelmed with new subscriptions. He said they have sold 59 million since November of last year. I think this is for real and will be here to stay. The sound of the preview station is great. My wife really likes the cool looking antenna on the roof. Mounted in the center of the roof near the back. Cannot wait until tomorrow to really start enjoying it.

I'm still waiting for the prices to come down. I like the concept, but all the stations still only play the same 15 songs! It would be nice for the boat!

I think the penetration XM is making right now is remarkable. realize, people getting XM now need to usually take the car in, figure out a new head unit or adapter to get, find a location for the antenna, maybe get a difft. more appropriate antenna, and set up an account, wait to have the thing installed and get the car. In the near future, it will be... "Would you like the XM option on your new car Mr./Mrs. Smith?". --- John

29 Fever... The info you have regarding the stations is not right, their are like over 40 stations (maybe over 100, haven't really explored enough) at least that play music and each tends to hone in on a genre so basically you get unlimited music genres. You get '70s or '80's or MTY or Pop or old school rhyme or country or reggae or K-Rock or... you get the idea. It's really unlimited the choices. -- JOhn

XM
Is the subscription $10/month
for each head unit? I'd hate to pay $30 to have it in the boat, car and truck. |

gjockey,
What I meant is even when you channel surf on the local stations, it's still the same stuff over and over. What's the difference if you're picking up a Clear Channel station out of NYC or LA? It's still going to be the same songs. Hell, it's mostly all the same syndicated DJs too. (If you're listening to the same venue) You know what I mean. I do agree that it would be cool though. I'm just not ready to pay a monthly fee for radio. Now if we could get some detail on prices for a unit for the car, truck and boat at a discount rate... |
Well, I woke up this morning and the unit was wroking. They activated it sometime during the night. The wife was kind enough to let me drive her Excursion to work today so I could play with it.
First off the sound quality is GREAT. The display itself is not that attractive and a little hard to see if you ask me. It worked under our carport, under overpasses, etc. I only heard on commercial during the thirty minute commute, while scrolling through the channels. Got to tell you though that I laughed my ass off listening to the comedy channel on the drive in. I am hooked. This should help relieve stress and road rage. You are correct in that it will cost $9.95 per month for every receiver you have. However, if you are like me, you only need one. It easily moves from the car to the boat to the house. You do have to buy an installation kit for all locations, but the receiver pops right out of the holder in your car and right into the holder in your boat. Just like putting a floppy disk in the drive. Then you only pay one $9.95 per month charge and use it anywhere you want to. It will be an available option in most automobiles in two years from what I understand. Put I am going to enjoy it now. Where do I buy stock for this company? |
Hey Buckethead,
I see that you must have bought the Excursion you were looking at. Funny, but we got the XM installed yesterday, and you are right. That comedy channel is funny as hell. I sent you an e-mail. Check it out. |
