Default Powerboat P1 USA: What's the Deal?

After the somewhat recent announcement of Powerboat's P1 USA's $90,000 purse for the Super Vee Lite series, I thought it was time to check in with director of operations Martin Sanborn and ask four straight questions, http://www.boats.com/boat-content/20...%99s-the-plan/.

Interesting, at the very least.

Great questions! Hopefully things will work out like they envision them

Thanks, Racegirl.

One of the things I like about Martin Sanborn is I can ask him real questions and he doesn't flinch.

I hope it works, too. I also understand why some of the other organizations are cautious.

Question

Matt,

Any details on this ?

Min boat count ?

"additional sponsor fulfillment criteria"

Hey Tim,

I think those are reasonable questions. I will follow up.

According to Martin Sanborn, there have to be eight to ten, depending on the venue, Super Vee Lights. The "additional sponsorship fulfillment criteria" means they have to be APBA/UIM members and they have to wear driving suits with the APBA/UIM logo (as well as a Powerboat P1 logo).

8 TO 10 SVL's at every race.

Now that would be great !!!

As far as the APBA ?

I agree they will need those patches for their entire season....

More news on that coming soon!

I am just reporting. I said I'd follow up on my original story when Tim Sharkey asked a couple of good questions. Got the answers, nothing more or less.

What you do with them, and how you perceive them, is totally up to you.

Martin is onto something...but the background "noise" will be very difficult to overcome. Each existing sanctioning body, aside from the semi-dormant APBA Offshore, is both unneccesary and self preserving....... a real problem.

The trick is to extract a single sponsored Vee class (P-1?) and a single sponsored cat class (UIM-1?)....and make everything else the developmental league. Martin is half way there in concept.....but execution in shark filled waters is a B*tch, even if the sharks are short sighted and toothless in many cases.

Good luck......
