Of all the boats mentioned the twin engine Pantera 28 is at the top with the Powerplay #2. Both are rough water boats with proven race hulls. On Lake Erie you'll need all the boat you can get and those two provide that.

[Active Thunder as well if you can find a 28].

You can't go wrong with this boat:

It's build quality is legendary, a derivative of the 33' hull which handles chop beautifully. You want tough and high quality for Lake Erie and this is a steal at this price.
The owner bought my 33' and he maintains his boats meticulously.

2350 pounds! is that a misprint? That would be a cool boat is he can get it in his price range.

some really good post so far. i dont mind going older and bigger. i just figured the cost of twin engines would be to much with fuel and upkeep. im going to consider 28+ ft now because i will be sleeping on it on the weekends and plan on using it every weekend. my old boat was a 24ft crusier and i would get beat up alot. i saw a 29 fountain 1992 with twin 502 any thoughts.

two mild motors will be happier than one big motor and if something goes wrong you still have one to get you home. I was out on the lake earlier this evening... typical 2~4 lumpy, the problem is the wave spacing and the 5 footer with the big hole after it. Its not the 2 or 3's its this damn lake that makes every 5th wave a big hole or twice as big as everything else. In a newer light 25 footer tonight, you would have been cringing, hoping not to break anything, cold, wet and watching your cooler get airborn. An older heavy 30~35 footer with a couple 454's~496' and you would have had a chit eating grin on your face.

I think a 29 Fountain with twins is way to a$$ heavy. Twins really do not use more fuel depending on what you have. I get better mileage at cruise speeds in my 32AT than I did in my 28 Pantera with a 525SC. Maintenance cost do double though.
