That looks like aluminum .

How much did get get fro the scrap Metal ?

Is aluminum up these days ???

I loved the 57 ft Lazy Daze I owned and lived on for 4 or 5 years!

Perhaps people saw it in the Bimini race back in the day ???

ALL ALUMINUM:

I recall at the helm of my boat it had an emblem in regards to the Miami to Nassau race I believe is how it read.

Also read somewhere they had photographers and rescue on the top deck.
So it doubled as a support boat I guess...

Maybe the Lazy Daze website might have something in their archives ???

A quick search reveals they used a 50 footer in 1967. Mine was a 1969 57 ft or possibly 56 ? Perhaps once they did the race, the emblems may have been placed on all future HBs.

"Lazy Days houseboats first produced their aluminum hull in 1967. Lazy Days decided to catapult their aluminum hull design with a huge publicity stunt. This stunt would jumpstart the Lazy Days Company and put them in houseboat history. They entered the Miami to Nassau powerboat race. With a fifty foot houseboat they raced 184 miles, making about 20mph the entire race. Lazy Days managed a feat that was not easy back in the day.

Unfortunately for those looking for a Lazy Days designed houseboat, there are only a limited few of the original boats. Between 1966 and 1987 there were only 518 Lazy Days houseboats ever built. Finding one of these rare boats is rather difficult."

Sorry to hear Brian. My old boat has seen one of those. Hurt to watch but was gone in minutes. Since mine was fiberglass I had to pay to get rid of it $80/ton

Wow what a great story Tim! There are many Lazy Days still here on Lake Lanier. My boat was a steel hull. She was rather unique as it had two levels.
