Yes, I've seen this happen too many times...once IB takes over a lot of forums change for the worse or fail altogether.
I originally joined OSO back in like 2005, didn't spend a lot of time posting then as there was a certain...elitism...I guess is the word, didn't feel welcome. But reading through this thread, seeing the amazing scope of the tight bonds of so many people, ranging from racers to builders to owners, it really was a halcyon time ten years or more ago. I see the opposite though with this forum, pre-IB I felt much more part of the site because it was full of "regular" boaters as contrasted now with the big bucks bling machines that are out of reach for the common boater. Price escalation has a lot to do with it pushing many out of the sport. |

I've seen the IB thing too, actually have stopped participating in a forum because it just became blah.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to imagine folks looking to get into this hobby at an entry level, see these deep 6 and 7 figure boats and probably feel like this whole thing is over their heads. To me, it's just as hard to relate to those boats and owners, as it would be to a 65' sportfish.

The sad thing is the whole SOS cluster f*ck really fractured the old OSO. A lot of people bought into Sunkins BS and followed him to SOS. at the same time OSO was being sold to IB and social media was taking off. Really the end of an era, aka “the good old days” of OSO.
Activity is pretty down and it seems there are 15 or 20 people that participate consistently. This and Corvette Forum is one of the few online things I do. Not interested in moving to Facebook or Instagram. Might be interesting to start a "check in" thread in General Discussion to see all is still lurking around. |
NO facebook here I show up in the winter when there is free time , summer is for the lake and burning gas not typing lol
