Issue with my boat, please help
Well, I just bought a 2000 checkmate 259 convincor and took it out for the 1st time this week end. Its got the 502 magnum 415hp motor and a mirage 25p 3 blade prop. I was very disappointed in the performance. Everytime you take off and its starts to plane off the prop slips/cavitates and you have to back the throttle down then get back into it. secondly its only pulling about 4300rpm to. It seams very slow from a dead stop. Is this a problem with the prop? what do you guys recommend? any help

I would think a 25 is definately too much prop for the combo. A 23 at most and possibly even a 21 four blade might be the ticket.
PS, I wouldn't be doing too many hole shots with the thing either. Thats a heavy boat and if you hammer it out of the hole too often, its going to spit bravo parts at you. |
Mine came with a 27p 3 blade cavitated like crazy and about 40 to 50 seconds to get on plan about 600hp tested 3 props all 4blades 26p 28p 30p went with 28p planes in about 15 seconds handles great over the 3 blade. If your near the ozarks I'll give you place I got test props from didnt cost a dime to test

I'm by the chain of lakes in illinois. I'm not making 600hp, just the stock 415hp 502 magnum. Is it cavitating and only running 4300rpm because its too much prop?
What's your drive ratio? 1.65? I would try a bravo 1 22pitch
is this boat capable of 65+mph with the right prop?
Yes very capable of 65 mph.I would try a 23" mirage plus or call Bblades and talk to Brett about workin on that 25".How hard are you on the stick coming out of the hole. How does the prop look?Is it in good condition? There may be a problem with the prop.
Prop looks great. i'm pretty hard on the throttle and steadily increase to full throttle. I'm thinking a good 4 blades may give me what I want. Its just an absolute dog from a stop or moving slowly. The bow comes up so high its ridiculous I think.

Is the trim sender working? Are you sure the drive is all the way down when your coming out?
I checked that it moves all the way down and up.
I would call Brett. He will send you in the right direction.Depending on your x dimension that will make a big difference whether you should go with a 3 blade or 4 blade.Seems to me Checkmate was using some Hydromotive 4 blades with some sucess.
I have hydromotive 3 blade 24 pitch , that came off a checkmate like yours and ran very well 170.00 shipped.
3 blade well run faster than a 4 blade, but a 4 blade will come out off the hole faster, i might even trade props with you .we could work it out . hyd is stern lift prop, a bravo is bow lifter |

A Mercury Rev4 might do the trick. He IS the prop man!! |
I would call Brett at BBlades also. I would think that you have a 60-62mph boat with the right prop. My guess would be a 22 or 24 Bravo 4 blade. Maybe a REV4.

Actually i went with a hydromotive. I ordered a quad4 x 22p so we'll see how that works out. should work better all around then the mirage plus 25p
Hydromotive will also let you(at least they used) exchange it once within like 14 days if you need a different pitch.
yes they will it's only $20 to exchange it and you have 30 days and if you dont want another they refund 90% at that point. I think the hdro prop should help alot?
Call the guys at Checkmate ?
