As I am a geographer I am only interested in the stop of the oil spill, not in the monetary or legal issues which dont avoid the damage.

It was interesting to see that the almighty Rush has called our "little" disaster a "minor circumstance of industry" and then goes on to say that, from a world wide perspective, this is the 2nd smallest spill in petro-culture history. (Petro-Culture; my word(s), not his) Really Rush? Second smallest? On what scale?
Shift gears. As a resident of the Florida Panhandle area we are always concerned about hurricanes at this time of the year. Our season starts on June 1st and runs to the 30th of November. Has anyone considered how a hurricane would affect this spill, or worse yet, how the spill with its heat insulating properties will affect the intensity of a pending hurricane?

I've been reading some articles lately on the possible effects of a hurricane hitting that area at this time - suffice to say the prospect of billowing, foamy brown waves of sludge being pushed inland in a hurricane's "storm surge" is a pretty scary thought - and would multiply the environmental effects even more.

Who thinks the Offshore racing season will finish on time? When the oil gets into the Florida Straits this month it will shoot up the east coast in a hurry. We'll be in Pompano in early August for vacation. I hope it will not have gotten that far by then...
