Default Apache Projects: Big and Small

Checked in with Mark McManus this morning, http://www.boats.com/boat-content/20...big-and-small/.

McManus is such an interesting guy, not just because he builds and restores legendary V-bottoms, but because he's a walking history lesson.

Did he, by chance, give you the price tag on either one of those?

Reasonable question.

He didn't give prices ... but I didn't ask. (I usually do.)

I will.

I believe he calls it McManus Apache, or Apache by McManus, or something like that...

The company is called McManus Superboats. From another thread:

"The name or mark for "Apache" for boats is U.S. Trademark Registration Number 706,228. Do a search of this Reg # and you will find that Mark McManus INC is the owner of the mark."

As I understand it, McManus builds and restores (which is actually more common for him) Apaches, as well as his own line of McManus Superboats.

I stand corrected, thank you.

Apache threads, from what I've seen, do tend take on a life of their own, don't they? But discussion and disagreement, even of the heated variety, are all good as long as they're civil.

My intent (though it really doesn't matter) was to present a little news on a notable builder. I make a ton of phone calls every day to see what's going on in our world. It's basic beat reporting, but you know, even in a down economy there's always something happening.

Mark did not mention "Cold War," unless that's the name of the triple-enigne 54-footer he built not all that long ago. We did talk a bit about that boat and the drama surrounding its ownership.
