cut back riser?
 

I am upgrading the exhaust on my 454 mag to a set of gil headers and am running into a space issue. I can trim an inch or so off my silent choice but still need another inch. Can I carefully cut back the riser an inch or so with out screwing it up or affecting its performance? Thanks for your input.
