27 Glasstream is running bow down and slow I could uses help

I have a 27 glasstream I bought through insurance it was completely stripped origanally had 1 engine. I have rebuilt boat with two 250 efi Yamahas and can only get it up to 58 mph at 5400. I have put nose cones on it with low water pick ups and manual jack plates. I am running 25 miriage props with a countrer. I am not sure what side the counter should be on I have tried it both ways to try and get bow lift I am not sure about what style of prop I should run or what heigth I sould be. I here of big mph numbers out of these boats but I am not even in the ball park.

Spin the props in for bow lift, maybe 4 blades?

SVL-WARLOCK 06-24-2010 11:10 AM

Try corking the front live well. It will fill and not drain. Is it a scx or ccx? Also that boat loves bravos or power tec 4 blades.

It is a scx will 4 blade give me bow lift?

SVL-WARLOCK 06-24-2010 11:56 AM

Usually they offer stern lift. That boat just loves 4 blades for some reason. Never had any luck with 3 blades on that boat at all.

What pitch should I start with?

SVL-WARLOCK 06-24-2010 03:47 PM

those motors turn around 5750 or so. i wold see if i could try a 24 or 26. you might call power tec and see what they recomend. Also either size bravo. try and find a dealer with blue ones. They are the loaners.

I was on one last weekend w/ 225 optis, I think he is getting close mid to upper 70's the thing takes off like a rocket. definitely running 4 blades not sure on the pitch, it's a light boat and it was rough so we took a beating

this was an 04 scx

Pete280 Any issues with the o4 boat ? I'm interested in the boat, but not many made so information is scketchy

Pete280 06-25-2010 07:53 PM

I thought it was a decent boat, definitely not made for rough water, we came back from the eastern shore in honest 3-4's and it was brutal. If you up on the James or somewhere protected I think it's a good boat. With 225's it flew,

btw, it seemed to run flat to bow down, but that was probably due to the seas

Try a pair of 25* pitch Rev4's from Mercury.
BBlades sent us some for our 32 Glasstream and it became a rrocket and very stable with a slight nose up attitude.

Total Rec 06-26-2010 11:39 AM

What kind of speed were you getting? What motors were you running?

chuckbeecher 06-26-2010 01:44 PM

The 32 had 275 Verados and we were in the 72-75 range depending on water and load.
Step bottoms love the REV4's
these were far better than any other 4blades we used.

Is any one running jack plates or you just bolted straight on the transom? Top hole?

My Partner and I had Glasstreams for sale. He got stuck with a 2008 SCX with 225 opti's we could not sale. The advertised speed with 24P bravos is 65MPH, it runs 64-66 GPS. You have to overtrim boat to get 66 and yes it does run flat, but handles well. I ordered a 2008 32SCX for myself with every option availible including cabin a/c and hard top. 300 Verado's for power with 26P bravo's labbed by BBlades. Best speed 71 on GPS Brett advised me to stick with the 4 blade bravo's. I run 87-89 octane, on hot days most of the time runs 68 max gps. The 32 and 36 seem to handle and run better than the 27. I am satisfied with the performace of the 32. The 32 is based off the owner of Glasstream's old race boat. " Turn of the Century" Thats what he told us anyway.

What position are you on the transom are you running jack plates?

Boater8987 06-28-2010 05:10 AM

No jack plates. 2nd hole down from the top on the opti's and the verado's.

Pete280 06-28-2010 05:28 AM

i guess that was his dreamometer, I did notice this weekend they were 24p 4 blades,

I was looking at one for sale in VB, but now I don't know. Not going to ride like my old Cafe', huh?

Did the one you rode in just have the power heads replaced?
