Mercury 1300/1350 Production on Track
 

Spoke with Fred Kiekhaefer of Mercury Racing this morning, http://www.boats.com/boat-content/20...ll-production/.

I've known him for a lot of years and I've never seen him more excited about a new product. Not even close.

Can't wait to hear what they sound like. I'm expecting them to be pretty quiet with the turbos on them actually.

Fred K. said they are really quiet. Not Verado, "Check the tachs to see if the engines are running," but really quiet for engines producing that kind of power.

Fancy way of saying the development was outsourced? (or some)????? ;) Cool motors tho for sure, nice to see new development going on in a down economy

By all reliable accounts including those from the lead project engineer engine Erik Christiansen and Mercury Racing president Fred Kiekhaefer, 100 percent of the development was done in house.

Cool, to hear merc took it on themselves. They outsourced some of the verado that's why I asked. Surprised they didn't go back since the Verado worked out so well.

Either way like I said very cool motors and thumbs up to Merc.

If memory serves you're absolutely right about the Verados, and I know they learned a lot in the development of those outboards that they applied in the 1300/1350 project. Now if you ask me exactly what lessons they applied, I'd be at a loss.

Lesson one boost is good. Lesson two things fail with boost. Lesson three fix what breaks and your back to lesson 1 :drink:

Nah, they just don't want their laundry aired out. These motors were built in-house, no outsourcing for Merc which I applaud. :cheer:
