Boat comes off of trailer on interstate 71 in Cincinnati

www.wcpo.com

I didnt know that Land Rovers could tow a 33 foot boat

LaughingCat 07-01-2010 03:36 PM

THis was one of the comments under the story:

This is what happens when you try to tow a 33 foot boat with a land rover only designed to tow 4500lbs. That boat and trailer together likely weigh 10,000 pounds. Some people have more money than brains. At any rate I blame Obama, this never would have happend if Caribou Barbie was in the white house.

That's because you can't!

Shorgasm 07-01-2010 03:44 PM

I should be quiet.I tow my 290 Sundancer with my escalade.

redsled33 07-01-2010 03:47 PM

when I first saw the pictures i thought the Land rover just got hit by the trailer not that it was towing the trailer. Like you said some people have more money than sense

Ted G 07-01-2010 03:53 PM

Damn, looks like a Formula 311. I don't know where they got Thundercraft from, maybe Thunderbird???? That rig had to be 10k all together, way too much for that Rover.

88Fount33 07-01-2010 03:57 PM

I thought I saw that the driver of the SUV was also a law man, unless it was poorly written leaving out the "reports that" from the sentence. If not, I do believe I would like to go to work for that police office, man you can drive a Land Rover AND have a 33 ft Thunderboat.

Plane Silly 07-01-2010 04:02 PM

Seems like a big boat for a tandem axle trailer?

Catmando 07-01-2010 05:21 PM

"People shouldn't boat on I-71" LMAO :D :D

tomtbone1993 07-01-2010 05:26 PM

The Land Rover "Range Rover" has a 7700lbs towing rating with trailer brakes.

offshoredrillin 07-01-2010 05:39 PM

animalhouse 07-01-2010 08:11 PM

Not smart, but back in the day we used an escalade EXT to tow XXX to the ramp, the air ride had its tounge hanging out.

Funny, Cobra boats in California bought an F650 and their biggest boat is a 32' V bottom. What do yall use now?

ImaPoser 07-01-2010 08:48 PM

Silly me. I bought a 1 ton diesel to tow a pontoon. :party-smiley-004:

I never saw a 29 foot searay with a single screw. What year is it, or is it an optical illusion ? My eyes are not what they used to be

Perhaps the Searay is like the owner- had a screw loose and it fell off! Just kidding... I don't know the towing circumstances (maybe the trim tabs help stabilize while towing) but that picture certainly makes it look like it would be interesting.

single 7.4 w/B3.It pops right up and runs 43 gps.it's not meant to be fast.

The truck is pushing it.Brakes are my biggest concern.I certainly couldn't do this anywhere else but flat florida.

rbarna 07-02-2010 08:04 AM

I've had no problems towing a 30' y2k with a Range Rover with electric trailer brakes. Well within capacity of the truck.

Perhaps it was driver error?

Pesky Varmint 07-02-2010 08:26 AM

I don't understand what the problem is. I pull my 35 foot Nordic with
my Yamaha Rhino all the time. I guess some people are just incompetent.

Simply upgrading the rotors and pads from stock will make a huge difference. I did that on my 2006 Denali XL after toasting the front rotors/pads when I lost my trailer brakes. A good set of slotted rotors and better material pads made a huge difference.

Looks like you need another axle.

And some electric over hydrailic wouldn't hurt either.... let the trailer stop the truck..

When I read this post I almost puked - I just sold my 311 to a guy in Cincinnati. Looked at the pictures and it wasn't my old boat. I know she's not mine any more but she was a very nice 311 and it would have killed me to see her end up like that !!!

I've never seen one with a B2.I know they made them with B1's prior to 94.The B3 is the way to go with this thing.I can run her at 3k/30mph and not fall off plane.

nice! what an fool! i'm glad his little girl didn't get hurt, to bad he's still in the gene pool.
people who tow like this are not only putting your family in danger but everybody else on the road. if you can't afford the correct tow ride for your boat, you don't need your boat.
