...this bolt that I found in the bilge last night. It's got a 10MM head, and it's not a concave head like on the exhaust. It's 30MM long and has a domed tip as well which looks unique to me.
It is steel/magnetic, with a little bit of black paint sprayed on it.

Thank you very much in advance.

One of the accessory bolts? I have 2 496 engines apart on the floor right now. Check around the alternator, psteering, raw water pump areas.

I searched and felt around for 20 minutes in the dark, and could find anything.

My 496HO is a 2002/2003 model year.

I had my antifreeze flushed and replaced last season. IIRC, the only thing that get's de-installed is the heat exchanger.

Fuel pump bolt if you have the cool fuel system. They have two bolts just like that the hold the pump to an engine bracket.

Its #33 on the breakdown.

10mm is usually used to hold on a bracket or pump. I would check the top bolt in the idler bracket on the stbd side at the top, around the power steering pump area, (most of those are pretty long though), The bell housing uses 10mm also but may have more black paint on it than what this one shows here. Also the bracket that holds the boost pump and fuel sep filter has 10mm bolts in it also. Might want to check in the altinator bracket too. Looks like they use 10mm too. Last place to look is where the heat exchanger mounts bolt to the front of the head. they bolt the thermostat housing to the cylinder head.

Let us know what you find!

John

Thank you everyone. I'll dig into it later this morning.

Part number 3. We might have a winner.

Looks like a stock oil pan bolt to me. Put your inspection mirror on and check on both sides of the oil pan rails. I think you'll find one missing.

Best Regards,

Part number 16

...is the oil pan bolt spec. The screw is either 7MM or 8MM across the shank/threads.

I'll check this too.
