Need a quality low pressure fuel pump.
I need a quality low pressure fuel pump that pushes about 5-7 psi.
Its for a 5.0L ford/volvo engine. I went through about 3 of the stock fuel pumps. They cost about $200 each. I'd run the boat, it would run great, park it in the garage, and the next time I went out (1-2 weeks later), it wouldn't start, because I'd get no action from the pump. 10 micron filter was in front of the pump (stock) Switched to the Holley "Red" marine pump. It did the same thing about 2 weeks into it. I took it apart, freed it up, and it ran for about 6 more months. One day it overheated, and I had to buy another one. Holley said it overheated because I was "pulling" fuel through a racor. And the Holley red can't pull, its a "push" pump. So I'd have to push it through the racor. Bought another Holley red and hooked it up so it pulled straight from the tank, and pushed the rest of the way. The pump is about 2 inches higher then the tank, I can't get it any lower then that. It lasted about 2 weeks. I tried to go out, and the Pump wasn't pumping. Took it apart and got it turning. Now it runs fine. (for now) Sometimes running them backward and forward gets them freed up. On both the stock and Holley pumps this worked before. Who makes a pump that runs about 5-7psi, thats bulletproof, and can be externally mounted? I don't really want to mount a pump "in" the tank if I can avoid it. Thanks |
Look into a Mallory pump, I think they are sturdier than a Holly and can actually Pull fuel better.

Is there a restriction in the system (anti-siphon valve or??).
I know the Volvo pumps are far from bulletproof (Have a 5.0GL is ride round boat) but something is wrong. |
I have had good and bad luck with Mallory...I have put some on a couple customers boats (110's), they work great and have for a couple years now. Another customer (140's), I replaced one pump twice and my boat (110's) they wont last more than one year.
110's and 140's are the series of pump in the marine version. |

The manual I have says it should have 5-7 psi going to the VST tank. Then from that tank, my high pressure pump pushes the fuel rail to about 38-40 psi Looked up aeromotive's. Looks good enough. I"ll start looking up the other ones you guys mentioned. Thanks http://aeromotiveinc.com/products-pa...-ho-fuel-pump/ |
