History of Power Play boats
Hello. I have purchased a 1988 Power Play XLT 185. They were made in Holland Michigan. What is the history of this company, and are they now PowerQuest? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, |
there is a thread here that covers much of what you are looking for...search power play boats it's in the general forum.

If the info you're looking for isn't in that thread just ask Steve, something tells me he knows or can find out. |
The Power Play in question is in deed from the same folks who have most recently been PowerQuest boats, however, I do not know if PowerQuest is still in business.
Another member had one years ago and made quite a few posts. The search function works well. :D http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...ectations.html http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/p...lem-child.html |

Thank you everyone for your information. I ended up calling a guy in FL with Powerplay and he was not very nice. He said they only make boats for the gov't and was pissed that I got his number somehow???

Rock - congratulations. XLT 185 timeline highlights:
1983 - Todd Kamps and Kevin Herdes buy a 18.5 mold w/ 24 degree deadrise from the owner/designer of the Baron which was built on S. Division in Grand Rapids, Mi. in the 70's. They do a few tweaks and set up shop in a pole barn on the corner of 112th & James St. in Holland, Mi. and start building handlaid boats with color in gel. Business takes off and they tap local talent from S2 (Tiara) Chris Craft, Slickcraft, etc... The XLT soon develops a local cult following with hot rodders on the water and sends Donzi 18 Classics running back to the docks. 1989 - lawsuit with Powerplay Boats in Fla. over name. Lawyers make money and Power Play throws in towel and agrees to name change over a production year to PowerQuest. During the XLT 90' year Power Play on transom with PowerQuest logo on the side. 1993 - production of XLT scrapped and mold cut up. Eurostyle boats become the rage. Few pics of a 89 I bought new and still have at my dock. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../woogdock1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...on/xltside.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../wooglogo1.jpg |

91 Power Play / Powerquest Conquest 230
WOW so cool to read!! I just bought my boat TODAY!! I was wondering why the heck my boat had a Power Play sticker on the side of it, and Powerquest decals both on the back, and underneath. We really love this boat already, and are now wondering just how rare it really is???

Power play marine was formed by Danny Weistein and built since 1986 for over 18 yrs. His silent partener Suposly took a deception take over during a
bankrupt. I am sure the person was new owner Tom Mason is the person you may have talk to. That is just his demeener, great way to make boat sales! By the way. the new power plays look like Midnight Express (which he once owned) they don't build the best ones any more! G/B |
