What wire to use??? Re-wiring some things in the engine compartment.

Can you use regular copper wire? Or do you have to spend the long dollar and get tinned copper marine wire?? I need to re-wire the bilge pumps and a few minor things that run back there (stereo ground, power, etc...).

"Marine" wire aint cheap!!!!!!!

Thanks for the help!!

All I have heard is "Use the tinned copper"

So, when you find the best place to buy from, let me know because all of my wiring went into the trashcan.

Mike the tinned wire will hold up better than standard wire. It also has finer strands so it will stand up to vibration better. Do it right and buy the marine wire.

Shop around for the best deal with BoatUS, West, BoatFix, etc. The two big names in the "good stuff" are Ancor (no "h") and Marinco. Forget bare copper - even in fresh water.

Yes you should use marine wire especially if you run in salt ,unless you like rewireing every few years.Trust me my bilge pump wires broke inside the insulation and I didn"t know it. The boat almost went down over a weekend when the bellows ripped and it rained.
