They were lucky not to have been hurt.

This is NOT a PhotoShopped picture.

Yeah, no chit. I'm surprised it didn't sink the boat. That much weight hitting the deck could have broken it in half.

AB From Windsor 07-22-2010 07:29 AM

That is scary!

CigDaze 07-22-2010 07:46 AM

Holy crap!

Steve 1 07-22-2010 10:56 AM

Is that some good luck sign on the sail?? It did not work.

TEAMBAJA 07-22-2010 11:03 AM

I bet the blowboater tries to sue the whale!

Previous use as Nishin Maru bait boat.

I bet the time from start of breach till the whale hit the boat was MAYBE two seconds. A pro throttleman MIGHT have reacted fast enough, but the shock of seeing the whale would probably have frozen his muscles. Even Mongo's Magic Throttle Arm would've been too slow. :D

Cat,

I was kidding. You know my sense of humor. Are you having a bad day?

Plus, if the boat was propped for top speed than low-end acceleration would have been compromised, so even the best throttleman on the planet wouldn't have stood a chance.

But I digress.

Roger 1 07-22-2010 04:18 PM

Not if Chuck Norris was driving. He would have jumped straight up, and once clear of the bolster, deliverd a side kick to the whale knocking it clear of the boat. Then He would have tucked his leg back in and slipped back into the bolster and continued on his way without missing a beat.......so fast that no throttle work would have been needed.....yep.....that's what he would have done alright!

offshoredrillin 07-22-2010 04:21 PM

Crazy stuff, first I've ever heard of that happening, not saying it hasn't but one would figure it has to have happened before...reminds me of the pic with the guy in a kayak and the image of a huge shark under him...

Looks like someone caught it on video.

Not the best quality, but still pretty cool. I think even Chuck would have had to be on his A Game to prevent this one. :)
