Drive Shower Reccomendations?

38' Fountain Lightning with Bravo 1s, I'd like to add drive showers and have been told to stay away from the halo type. My last boat had IMCO showers on it. Are there any cap type that are better than others? I've been looking at these:

http://www.cpperformance.com/p-11567...ling-shower.as

Price seems right, or should I look at anyone elses?

Heard the total opposite. Have heard the cap type can vibrate causing the drive cap to loosen up. They bolt on threw the drive cap bolts. That cap holds the bearings in place so you can guess what happens when that gets loose.

The halo type only uses one front bolt.

I asked the same question last year, everyone responded with Simrek,I'm picking up mine next month.

I too am shopping and am wondering. I heard that the halo type shoots a small, small water stream at the drive and bounces off where as the top mount directs the stream of water on the head and down the side and in some brands it strengthens the cap. To me the top mount sounds to be better but maybe someone with more knowledge can elaborate? thanks

I'm just confused on p/u type. My IMCOs on my last boat had just a 45 degree cut p/u tube. Didn't seem like it'd cause much drag. But I see the scoop style, and also that large p/u on the DANA Marine unit and can't help but wonder how much drag that creates at 80MPH

Do the bravo steering caps interfere w/ the Simrek?

A friend has a 260 SS with a Bravo3 and had the chalky build up and decals fall off. I told him about drive showers and he bought the Halo style one for it and never had it happen again.
He then bought a 382 and got the Summit style ones because of the steering brackets and they also did the trick with no more chalk deposits. While boating one clam day I hung over the swim platform and was amazed how much water those things shot at the upper.
There are a lot of other boats in our drystack building with top cap style ones and they all have the chalky sides.

Simerks on Bravos even with higher horsepower work great. I've had mine on for 5 years with no sign of any white chalky substance.

That's what I have, never had a problem with it.

I run the Innovative Marine Hydro Cool with a sea water pickup. Works great and ALWAYS supplies water regardless of trim position.

Unfortunately doesn't look like he is still around as his website is down. :(

I've had simrek on 3 boats. I think they work best.

Jpzaluski 07-23-2010 06:08 PM

Is Latham steering factory on a Fountain? My rear cap is a cast stainless piece that holds the tiebar and the cylinder on an "ear". Will the Simrek work with this?

GO4BROKE 07-23-2010 06:35 PM

I'm sure one of the models will. I have imco steering and have the halos.

Yes, and they keep the drives very clean (no chalk).

Jpzaluski, attached is a thread worth reading on drive showers.

Anyone know if the Simreks will indeed clear the steering on my Fountain?

Sydwayz 07-24-2010 10:37 AM

Max Machine is my preference.
