apba cannot charge admisson to the bridge to watch the marathon race bridge is public acess they advertize on their site ticket prices from $15.00to$150.00 dont buy any you dont need them check with the city of marathon before buying any also there will be no bleachers on the bridge mr.sanborn said sunday there would be he also forgot to mention the tickets needed to watch the race another fast oneapba tried to pull on a host city :D

Jeff 05-03-2002 09:59 AM

that does'nt sound very good for the sport. Who would pay anyway?

Ron P 05-03-2002 10:32 AM

I was going to book my vacation to the keys around this race. I was shocked to see the price of $150 for a ticket.

I don't want to meet Nick Carter, I just wanted to watch the race.

$10 bucks I could see, but $150???? Give me a break. If you doubt it, got to APBA site

As it turns out, we will be there a week late.

snglestack 05-03-2002 10:39 AM

ron p. seeing is beleiving isnt it also i thought you were going to skeeter fest either way have a good time:cool:

TulsaLarry 05-03-2002 11:03 AM

Here is the real scoop:

Race headquarters is to be established at Hawk’s Cay Resort, while the wet pits are to be situated at Blackfin Resort. Florida Keys Marathon Airport is to serve as dry pits.

A one-day race viewing pass on the bridge costs $15, a two-day ticket runs $25. A combination pass providing viewing and access to the race village costs $40 per person.

A special VIP viewing area providing lunch buffet, race poster and a chance to encounter Nick and Aaron Carter cost $100 for one day and $150 for two days.

Ron P 05-03-2002 11:20 AM

So, as it turns out, I'll be the official photographer at Skaterfest on 5/18 and 19. Then we arrive in Hawks Cay for a vacation on 5/25. One week after the races. Oh well.

Shane 05-03-2002 11:21 AM

Charging to meet racers and celeb's? Hmmm, I don't know if that is good or bad.

Is Nick Carter making his apperance for free?

CigDaze 05-03-2002 11:39 AM

$150.00 is really pushing it...but then again you get to eat lunch with Nick Carter--WOOHOO! :D

Anyway, I really don't think it's that big of a problem...$15.00 for a day is alright with me...I mean, when's the last time you saw a ball game or hockey game for free...I don't think getting into Daytona or Indy is all too cheap either...The way I see it, if more money can be generated by the organization and funneled to the racers prize purses I'm all for it!

Dredgeking 05-03-2002 11:45 AM

i'll pay for good seats. i don't want to pay for the hype. i think nick carter is all hype. if you want to see nick, then go to a back street concert.

DaveP 05-03-2002 11:45 AM

Sorry - since when has offshore racing become a charity? APBA / SBI needs $$$ to operate and if they provide a show and incurr expenses should they not try to make a return on their investment? The amount of $$$ that people spend on boats and people want to jump or crawl under a fence to avoid paying $5.00 - $15.00?? Give me a break :p :p

Singlestack - I guess you have never been to SBI's race in Key Wesy and paid to go into the pits and got BANGED without Vaseline (2-3x the regular price) on raceday? :p :D

BAJA342 05-03-2002 11:59 AM

Dave P Hits a Grand Slam HOMERUN!!!!!!

Jan 05-03-2002 12:04 PM

Combination Pass (Village & Viewing) … $40. For 2 days of boat racing and walking in the pits, Sounds like a bargain to me. I have been to 2 APBA races and both times were two of the best weekends my wife and I have shared. We are doing 3 races this year (Savannah, Cleveland and ST. Pete). The APBA PUTS ON A GREAT SHOW. We are also going to our first SBI Race at the Fountain Plant this year and I can't wait for that either. Not sure of your intent snglestack, but charging to watch from the bridge should not be a big deal.

Skaterfest is free..... Unless you want to meet me........ At that point I begin to sing back Street Boy songs until you pay me to stop.

DaveP 05-03-2002 12:31 PM

T2x - I'll donate $100 to a good local charity that weekend if you don't sing the whole weekend!! (since I'm going to be with you all weekend!) :D :D

PokerFace 05-03-2002 12:43 PM

Hey Dave P.....according to APBA the Atlantic City race is back on.....do you have any updates on that?

DaveP 05-03-2002 12:45 PM

Stay tuned..........

BODYSHOT1 05-03-2002 12:54 PM

 :p ...Dave...what's up?!!!

Shane 05-03-2002 01:05 PM

Welcome to the latest edition of As The Prop Turns. I guess I am all for the fee for viewing. DaveP makes a good point AS USUAL! (You smart guys have all the luck!;) :p) The paying to have lunch with Nick Carter, doesn't that go against the thread we had talking about how teams (including owners) need to be open to fans? I do not think that paying to have lunch with a team owner is good for the sport right now. Teams need top focus on just being nice and open to fans. I realize that lunch is served and there are posters etc. it just doesn't sit right with me. I hope the money made by selling viewing seats goes back to the teams and to promote better races.

Dredgeking 05-03-2002 01:29 PM

I agree with shane 100%. money to the racers / organization.

TYPHOON 05-03-2002 05:04 PM

1-Money has to be raised some how!
2-I dont think N.Carter cares about the money
3-We all complain there is no money in this sport.
4-Now people complain about $15 ticket?
5-I think it should be $40 or more what do you pay for any other sport?
6-If you could raise the purse to $10-20,000 in say F-1 dont you think you would have more boats?
7-Maybe P-4 and P-5 might try F-1
8-Maybe 25-30 boats in F-1 and run by themselves.
9-One race for F-1 with 25 boats alone now thats a SHOW!!!!!!!

SHARKEY-IMAGES 05-03-2002 06:44 PM

Well, since it has been brought up. The Jetty at the inlet of SBI's Point Pleasant Beach, NJ race is Government owned. There has been a fence across it for many years now at Jenkinsons. They also collect a fee to access the jetty, but not just for the races. Everyday in the summer season for beach goers and fishermen. Unless they exempt you at the gate if you have a pole in hand???

Kent Perroux 05-03-2002 11:04 PM

You guys kill me. You don't think twice about dropping a couple of hundred for a tank of gas, but when it comes to sneaking out of a 15 ticket, or a VIP viewing charge you hit the ceiling?

Here is a good option to save the $15 ticket:

Tow your boat there: Gas and Tolls. (Tolls from my house are about $50 round trip. Gas, about $60 round trip.

Put your boat in the water. Many local ramps charge. Estimate $25.

Fuel use in the boat for a day: Anywhere between $50-200.

Parts that break on the boat that day. $200.

Add those up and see if the $15 fee is excessive.

As for the Nick Carter VIP? I'll pay it for my daughter if she wants to meet him. Still cheaper than taking the boat.

SHARKEY-IMAGES 05-03-2002 11:33 PM

Kent, Just to make my point clearer. For me, it's not about the tickets. It's been a long time complaint around here how a PRIVATE OWNER of a beach can profit off of the GOV'T OWNED SOUTH JETTY of the inlet by charging people the use of the beach to get to that jetty. The only reason for having to use the beach was because the owner decided to put a fence across the Jetty down to the low water mark so that people would have to use his beach. On the North Jetty well, you are free to walk the length of it at no charge. BEACH ACCESS around here is a HOT TOPIC . Not many seem to mind paying a reasonable fee because the owners do keep the beaches clean. But the Homeowners think that when they bought a house on the beach that no one is allowed to walk along the water    Well who's taxes are replennishing those beaches and jetties when they get taken out by a storm. Sorry for getting so uptight about this topic, but being DENIED ACCESS to our Gov't owned properties just makes me   . I'm all for the sport of offshore bringing in money where they can. I just hope they make the right choices in how they do so....;)

Outrageous 05-04-2002 12:58 AM

I have spent tons of money just to watch a race from the side lines, but not to see the stars. Just hope they put the money to good use. Read a message on the APBA board that the VIP section sucked at Daytona. Something about little to no food, lines to get a coke, and couldn't hear or see the race. I would be asking for a refund at that rate.

If you charge them, you had better be able to deliver.

snglestack 05-04-2002 06:09 AM

everyone is missing the point here city of marathon said you cannot charge people to go on the bridge apba says the will if you buy a ticket you have a good case for a lawsuit great way for apba to start off its first race with the city off marathon the way they are going they wont have one florida race site left in the future

DaveP 05-04-2002 09:15 AM

snglestack 05-04-2002 04:08 PM

dave p. your dumb a-- question doesnt deserve an answer as for the bubba remark you are out in left field

Boat Girl 05-04-2002 04:11 PM

I agree that ABPA and SBI need to make money, but if I remember correctly, the only event SBI charges a price for is Worlds...Miami, no fees for pits or viewing...Ft. Myers no fees either...It was 50 bucks for Daytona VIP for Saturday...no offense, I go to watch a race not to eat lunch with "celebs"...I didnt see Jason Priestly charging for people to see him...Although, it was very nice meeting Bob Carter, he is a very nice guy, I'd rather see the real racing celebs, Art Lilly, Dave Woods, Bob Oliver, Joe Sgro, Peter Meyer, Steve David, Mike Seebold...the list just goes on...

And I think the point snglestack was trying to make was that Marathon told APBA they could not charge for the bridge and they are anyway...maybe I misunderstood...

gdfatha 05-04-2002 04:48 PM

A little heads up..
For Sunday at Daytona it was $50.00 for the best viewing area atop the restaurant on the pier. Food was free-they ran out before the start of the 2nd race. The bar ran out of WATER at about the same time.
Nick C was there and was surrounded by about 100 l autograph seeking little girls. He was very cordial BUT..... they let his entire crew stand in front of the spectators (who paid the $50) AND the spotters/and the crews of the other boats. This blocked the entire view of half the course for the entire race his boat was in.

Boat Girl 05-04-2002 05:35 PM

I'd rather pay the 50 bucks to have lunch with some of the drivers and t-men...I'm with you gdftha, Nick maybe talented, but I want to watch a race, not a bunch of teeny boppers trying to get a piece of a boy band...Jason Priestly did bring a lot of media attention to the sport and Miami, but people were there to see a race and respected the fact that he was there to race, he walked around the pits like any other driver and people treated him like any other driver...
