I was out running today for about two hours. Did a little bay cruise and then a little rough ocean jumping. About 2 miles from my house I lift up the hatch to check for any leaks etc. I find a fitting leaking gas, dripping very slowly. I decide to lift up the hatch, throw the blower on and idle back to the ramp. Just prior to this I ran an 86mph straight away. Before lifting the boat out of the water, I put the drive all the way up. To my suprise, I find this! I didnt feel it hit anything. And you would think I would have. The boat wasnt vibrating any more then usual either. Strange.....I wish I knew what happened. Any clue :angry-smiley-038:

EDIT: Three of the blades are completely bent. The forth blade is untouched!

Damn it looks like you tagged something pretty good, buoy maybe?

Expat 08-13-2010 10:32 PM

IMO Prop had to be spinning slow if not stopped for the blades to be bent back like that. Especially having one not touched. If really spinning fast all blades would be chewed.

That sucks.......but you have the right idea!!! Go pour yourself a cocktail, turn the stove on high for 30 minutes, go to the garage and get a ball-peen hammer and get to work on it!!! You'll be good to go after 3 cocktails but probably all four blades will be bent. :drink:

Oh yeah, they can fix that.

I agree, that it had to have happened when the prop wasn't engaged, or was in reverse, for it to have bent the blades in that fashion?

johnnyboatman 08-14-2010 07:19 PM

maybe it hit on the lift.

POWERPLAY J 08-14-2010 10:28 PM

I didn't know they have those damn manitees in NY...

BUIZILLA 08-14-2010 10:32 PM

labbed prop?

audacity 08-14-2010 10:34 PM

TAKE THAT DRIVE DOWN! no joke. if not the dynamic load it took, the vibration was NOT good for it! could be something as small as a seal that will result in big $ later!

sorry dude, sucks!

and yes i have no my fair share of hitting things! it's a sinking feeling...more so when u r sinking!

audacity 08-14-2010 10:35 PM

what is your x-dim?

CB-BLR 08-14-2010 10:36 PM

It definately hit something while going backwards... and pretty slow from the looks of it.

That had to happen in forward. Probably at the ramp when pulling out. That's why you didn't feel any vibration. Been there before.

Mastercraft240 08-14-2010 11:39 PM

X dimen -2(i believe?) not sure. Will double check. Don't believe it happened in reverse, the only time I reversed was during docking. Didn't happen lifting it up... I trim all the way up till it stops, then down a nip to take the load off. Not sure how that would even bend only three blades on the trailer without the engine on? ??

EDIT: The prop is labbed.

and yes, i hate those damn mantees in new york. Really killer.

audacity 08-14-2010 11:55 PM

what kinda speeds u get'n out of her?

Yikes!!
  1. Bad news: The propshaft broke and spit the prop off.
  2. Good news: You didn't loose the prop...
  3. Bad news: ...because the prop shredded it's way into the bottom of your boat.
  4. Good news: The boat didn't sink.
  5. Etc....

That is freakin' weird.

I'm thinking you got the trailer or the ramp, any damage to the skeg?, did you lose a board off your trailer? In any case that sucks, the fuel leak was potentially a lot worse. Was the line fractured or just loose.

SHAWN DAVIS 08-16-2010 11:38 AM

We made a hot lap around lake Maurepas one afternoon about 150 mph came back niticed a tad of slippage. It broke all 8 blades, took two inches off the tip of each blade and never a vibration. Only way we thought something was odd it picked up a couple hundred rpms on the last bit.
