Fuel consumption is very important with our fuel cost here.
@50mph i guess 60gallons is livable . You've got the boat you know the truth.

Thanks for your help.

Looking to purchase a used one in good condition. (2005 forward)
I am planning to use it in the Med and Greek isles.
Seas do get pretty big and rough here in a hurry.
Diesel boat only option to go. Fuel is $10.00/gal here. :(

Which boat would handle big water better?
And how about maint/costs of arnesons versus vdrive's.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Found this earlier post.

48

Any other 48ec owners around?

Or 400ss with Diesels?

I've had several Formula's and much prefer the brand but a boat that big and with diesels will not keep bravo/XR drives under it for long. So that leaves the 48EC (which seems like a great boat too).

Interesting point.

Thanks

formulas a nice boat but explain to me how a 400 ss is in the same class as a 48 ec ? its like comparing a 48 sea ray that does 35 mph to a 48 ec that does 60 mph sea ray an awesome boat but not sn ec:eek:

Two completely different boats. The Fountain will get you more speed. The Formula will give you more usable space, better fuel economy, and less maintenance (twin engines vs. three). Overall, I would pick the Formula based on the above plus there is more of a market down the road for resale because it appeals to both performance boaters and cruisers alike. The Fountain will appeal mainly to performance boaters.
Just my two cents.

The Volvo Penta D6-370 with their DP-H drive is bulletproof, and has accounted for the majority of 400SS sales since being introduced in 2005. Volvo Penta is very well set up in Europe for maintenance and parts. There is NO WAY that I would recommend one of the older Mercury Bravo 3 diesel boats.

The 48 EC is so much bigger and heavier than a 400SS, it's almost in a different class.
