Fountain 48ec or Formula 400ss??
Looking to purchase a used one in good condition. (2005 forward)
I am planning to use it in the Med and Greek isles. Seas do get pretty big and rough here in a hurry. Diesel boat only option to go. Fuel is $10.00/gal here. :( Which boat would handle big water better? And how about maint/costs of arnesons versus vdrive's. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

you really cant compare those two boats, i have an 2006 48 ec the boat is a tank, arnesons are pretty much bullet proof, i would find one with cummins diesels not yanmars. maintenance is pretty standard . oil and filter changes mostly. fuel economy is pretty good cruise is less than 60 gallons per hour.

Finding a diesel/arneson 2005 or newer 48 Fountain or 40 formula could prove difficult. Good luck.

Have you got any other consumption numbers @ 35mph and WOT Even at this forum they were tallking 1.2mpg @50mph or so which works out to about 40gals/hour. How about docking and planning with arnesons. Friend has a superhawk and it's a handful Thanks. |
I think the Fountain is a better rough water boat.

Just found a 48 EC here for sale, but 2004 with Yanmar's. Going to check it out

docking is no issue what soever moves around very well, planing depending on fuel and equipment is not the greatest when full of stuff and fuel, must hav the rite propellers on the boat. boat is very easy to drive, runs pretty flat , let the hull do its job.

dont forget the boat has 3 engines, when figuring fuel economy. i wish at 50 mph they got 13.5 gallons per hour each.
