Congratulations to the sonic crew. I just returned home from the event. Unfortunately this was the first real run that was made in the Brand new 52 Quad FPT Boat, "Going Lean"
The boat suffered a minor mechanical issue with something in the drive line, but it will be repaired and ready for action again soon.
Billy did a great job with the event, and I like others were dissapointed with the turn out concidering we were in an area stuffed with performance boaters.
Great job regardless.

A big Thank you to everyone. We had a great Old School run today.
I was very lucky to be on the Sonic as it made the round of the island and a great finish.
Joe not only drove the boat, but he also throttled and did most of the major repairs needed to keep the boat going.
At various times, one of the trim tabs wasn't workng, the power steering gave up and the cockpit filled with gas fumes making two of us more than a little sick.
But in old school fashion, the repairs were made at the fuel stop and a new riding position was invented to keep our noses out of the fumes until the finish.
Our navigator, Jon, is a sailboat guy having done some major races around the world.....after rounding Montauk, he was kind of rethinking this crazy powerboat stuff....but by the end of the race, he was askng ..."When can we do this again." He was very good, happy to have him on the team.
Low turnout? No, we really ended up with the guys who have an interest in this type of long distance racing. The Brit's were beyond great. They returned after their breakdown to welcome us back to the dock with warm congratulations and encouragement. These guys know what this kind of racing is all about and are more committed than ever.
I am deeply grateful to Joe for allowing me to be on the team. I think he will be a force in the future in this kind of racing.
Once again, I can't say how much Billy did both behind the scenes and just getting this thing off the ground.
We were very pleased to have Michael Aronow and his family attend the event and help with the awards at the end. He said Don would have loved these people who like this kind of racing.
I certainly hope that next year all of the boat owners that hesitated this year, will use the coming year of preparation to come and enjoy the fun next year.....The Brit's will be back along with several Europena teams for sure. They honor the tradition of this famous race and they loved the hospitality they were given by the Americans.

Congratulations,If this is ever done again you might think about taking the "race" out of the title.Because for those that have loans on there boats will not be insured for a race.
