Boat Wrap
I am looking for any info on boat wraps.
Likes / Dislikes? How long do they last?(My boat is stored in a garage when not in use) Best place to get them done close to Cincinnati? Price range? Does anyone have any photos to share? Any info is appreciated! Thanks. |
Sognzoo is awesome... You would be looking 4-5grand and I know people that have had theirs for multiple years
|
Thanks Kyboy... Is that for just below the rub rail or is that the whole boat?
|
I do them in Texas, My pricing is per square foot with a minimum charge. It takes a lot of time on a boat as there are no templates and layout is difficult. 3M warranty's there material for 3 years if correctly installed and documented. Get several quotes and references and check them out. Boat and vehicle wraps are different so make sure whoever you use has done boats before.
Just my .02 and 12 yrs experience :drink: good luck! |
It really depends. They usually wrap everything below the rub rail from what I see and then on the top they will try to save you money if they can. Check out there website http://www.signzoo.com/index.html they really have done some incredible boats that are on this forum. I have personally seen them and still don;t beleive some of them aren't a airbrush job. Guys name is Jason Getman that does the design work and they have certified installers all over the country that will come to your palce and install it for $500 extra. Worth it to me to leave mine in the garage and let them come here than waste tires and gas to haul it.

My boat is wrapped and its from the water line up including the top of the bow and the dash. It looks really good and gets a lot of compliments but me being the one to wash it a few times a week I notice the flaws. There will be seams (noone but me seem to notice) You will have to be careful as to how you tie your ropes for your anchors and what not as it will rub holes in the wrap. There are some negatives to it but overall I like it. Buy a solid white boat, wrap it every few years and you have a new boat. Mine is almost a year old and the colors still look great. I do spray wax it twice a week. I would have another boat wrapped mainly because I like the fact you can have a one of a kind boat!! Most everyone says who painted your boat so be ready to explain over and over its not painted lol.

Wraps are a great way to go... they are changeable and preserve the boats original finish at the same time!
My fountain had a Factory painted flag that I wanted to tone down so i went with a plain white to cover it up! Next year I plan to remove it and go with a gloss black. I have been in the graphics business for 20 years. I was a hand Paint pinstriper and airbrush guy but now rarely ever do I do those jobs anymore. Link to my site www.adprodesign.com & check out my Z06 Vette wrap video at the bottom. |
Wraps are a great way to update your boat without the price of paint. The down side is it cuts, rips, and scratches easer then vinyl decals. Always get extra for patches if it even hits your finger nail its scratched.
Also don’t get cheap brands stick with 3m controltac v3 its for marine use. Art work can very in price. Do not pay more then 5-6 dollars a foot for the material and clear laminate. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...g/DSC05167.jpg |

We got ours done 3 or 4 years ago. When they did it, I thought if I got two whole seasons out of it I'd be fine. The wrap looks almost as good as the day it was put on. The absolute only downside is that if you rub the dock the rubber tends to stick to the vinyl and it's harder to get off than if you leave a "rubber kiss" on the gel. No real rips that I've seen the only thing I have seen are where the tie downs have rubbed a bit at the chine and worn the wrap. But you need to have it pointed out to see it.
The math has been done time and time again -a if you do a full costom paint job the price can be 35k+ (and that's conservative). So, a full wrap would be anywhere from 3500-5k and last 3-5 years. Let's go conservative on the paint price and high on the vinyl price and low on how long it last. You'd still be able to change the looks of your boat every three years for over 20 years to equal one paint job. Needless to say, the cost effectiveness of the wrap is evident. |
I have a wrap on mine, had above the rail done and all the dashpanels and panels in cabin to match. Turned out great and have 2 1/2 years on mine with no complaints.

Do any of you guys with wraps raft up with other boats every weekend? Will the constant up & down of the bumpers wear the vinyl?
|
I don't have a wrap yet but research on rafting up says they use fender covers. I believe Jim told me he uses cape hatteras

Tank, your wrap is one of the best Ive seen (online anyway!)
What happens after say 5 years when you want to update or get a new wrap. How long would it take to remove that? Thanks for the compliment. Mine doesn't look half as nice as some of the new stuff their coming out with. The new 3M material is gettingto that "shine" stage that everyone complains about not having with a wrap. Check out all the crazy stuff The Graphics Co. is doing. Lots of race boats and race trucks. And in regards to the "tie up" question. I routinely tie up with other boats and have yet to have a problem. I have slip covers on my fenders but I only have two fenders. In the heat of the moment when everyone is partying and having a good time it's hard not to just tie up with people now and worry about it later. Sooooo, needless to say, I've tied up plenty of times with bare fenders. Haven't had one issue with it. |
I wrap can be removed in less than 1 hour......

RIGHT, I was refering to a WRAP not a vinyl graphics job......

I had mine done last April and overall am very happy with it. There are areas where the laminate is starting to come off but overall I like the way the boat looks and I get constant compliments (it really updated the look of my pink and teal Powerquest).
