With that HP it should move right along, I will assume he is the leader of pack even on one engine:drink:

The most I've ever heard a twin turbo motor make is 1700-2000hp.

It’s all top secret, but they should live for about 1000 hours with only an oil change.:drink:

Getting on plane would be a start, thats where I would go!

They aren't 3000hp

They have been working out the bugs for years.

It was up and running to Catalina and back for the poker run. This is Al's tinkering project.....it's not a prototype for production! :D It has four speed trannies too? :D

Don't think 3k in a piston marine app would ever live...

Boat looked a bit jumpy at last years shootout, wonder if they've fixed that problem...

I brought that up to the rigger when I was talking with him on Friday and he said they have some issues at the shoot out last year with the tranny taking too long to shift but that it is working really quick now.

spk1 08-31-2010 04:59 PM

I guess he is stuck with it, unless they start putting pontoons on f-16's. :evilb:

Nitrous is/was used to get on-plane. I have watched it get on-plane several times at the Shoot-out and in testing.

What horsepower would you say they are, when running 35lbs of boost and 116 octane?

Projects take time to work the bugs out of, especially, when its not your only project. He also has some really nice sand rails with twin-turbos as well.

Ken Duttweiler, of Duttweiler Performance, built the engines. He has more experience, than anyone I can think of, in building turbo engines.

Are you a HATER?

2,750 ea. before he put a water cooled turbo on them and they dropped to about 2,500 ea. They can pull 40 lbs of boost for like 40 seconds...

It gets on plane without having to use Nitrous

That must be new this year or only when not running the high boost because, Rique Ford was using it to get on plane at the Shootout last year. The 3000 horsepower is the number that Al gave me.

They were using the Nitrous to get in plane as they had some trans issues so the have seem'd to have gotten things working better and Al told yesterday it does not need the nitrous to get up. Now, if he had to drag race it, he'd hit that button every time I'd bet as it certainly does help. It is programed to only work below 3500 rpm I believe.

It's a 572 Kenny Duttweiler engine.....I ran it at LOTO shootout last year....it's fast had in the 180's....during the actual run we had it up to about 140 pulling strong but with a 4 speed tranny I didn't have enough time to get in the tall gear at WFO

Wouldnt the boat that ran 208 at the shootout easily get to 225 230 if it had more distance ? For a lot less $$$$ ?

After Nauti Marine ran on Saturday, they interviewed David Scott. He said that the boat was still pulling so hard that if they would have had another 1/2 mile, they would have been in the 240's. I would love to see what the boat would do in a kilo. Maybe one day they will do it.

How long will those engines run the way they are set up ??

Did I read on here that they were alcohol fueled and only set up for the shootout ?? 2-3 runs and rebuilt ??
