Prop-locks???
 

What do you guys think about Prop-Locks?
Get them or forget them??
Use to have them on old boat, but accidently left them on the boat when we sold it.... Feel sorry for that guy if he ever needed to change his props.

However, at one time I heard you could still steal a prop even if it had a lock? Has anyone else heard this???:confused:

I have the McGuard Lock from West Marine. I have been very happy with it so far. I have it on OVER my standard brass nut, which I shaved down a bit to allow more shaft for the McGuard Prop Lock to bite onto. It actually looks nice with the plastic end cap on it. I think they are around $40-50 bucks each.

When I bought my boat, it had both a prop lock and an outdrive lock, bot mc-gard, and NO KEYS.. I called mc-gard, they told me to make drawings of where the " little tits " were in relation to each other and I faxed it to them and got new keys in a week...

As far as whether or not they are good,,, consider that a new prop is going to cost anywhere from 350 - 600 bucks so in my opinion YES ITS WORTH IT.. Like the old saying goes, if they want it bad enough they are going to steal it, but atleast we can make it difficult for them... And consider that all you have to do is remove four nuts and you can walk away with a 5 thousand dollar out drive,, so in total with twins, you have 10 grand in outdrive and 1 grand in props, that 100 bucks is well worth the peace of mind..

I have heard that you can get them off without the keys, but it aint easy, so a thief is going to have to work at it..

That's why I have a prop lock AND a drive lock!!! :D :cool:

I actually WISH someone would steal my drives ... I could replace them with some XR's :D

As far as securing my props ... I lock them up alright ... in the back of my truck or in the garage. More power to the thief if he wants to SCUBA dive around the sleazy docks of Long Beach to take my props. :D

Drive locks.....good idea. Best bet for the props.......take em' off, a cop friend of mine says "if its shiny, they'll steal it....." take em' off, it only takes a couple of minutes.......Doug
