Very cool!

That in my mind is what true offshore racing is, not laps on the beach. Its about boat prep, keeping it in one piece and finishing. Like the desert racing I did for year, to finish first you must finish. No cheering fans or throngs of spectators, its you against the ocean and you against yourself.

Congrats to the guys who put a boat together well enough and drove it smart enough to finish, victory is yours.

We placed sixth out of thirteen in offshore B class in the 1992 Key West Worlds in a 30' Sonic. I put 13 pieces of tape on the dash that the owner thought represented laps. When we passed our first broken boat I pull a piece of tape off the dash. That's when he figured out I was counting competitors down not laps. We had a blast.

Great story. I've had to teach that lesson to my 16 YO and others.

Congrats Joe, Jonathan and charlie! I know the feeling all too well as Glassdave and myself were underdogs at the inaugural Don Aronow Bimini Challenge, had no idea we won our class, In my mind I was happy to finish, we passed a lot of bigger. prettier and higher powered boats. It's not how fast you go, it's how long you go fast!

Congrats to the Sonic "Offshore Race Team" and the great effort and drive you all had to run and win. Great write up T2. Next year all the groups running poker runs or races should try to separate event dates to get maximum attendance at these events
