Powerboat Racing Dentist won’t compete this year in Ft. Myers Beach Offshore Gran Pri
For Immediate Release
JUST SAY A-A-A-H !! Powerboat Racing Dentist won’t compete this year in Ft. Myers Beach Offshore Gran Prix Ft. Myers, FL - - Offshore Powerboat Racer and Fan Favorite, Dr. Gerardo Santiago, will be attending this years Ft. Myers Beach Offshore Gran Prix, however, this year, he won’t be competing. The pediatric dentist, from Naples, Florida, who stunned fans as he barrel rolled his "Zero Cavity Bat Boat" last year on the way to the finish line, is not quitting because of fear, but to spend a little more time with the kids, and that doesn’t just mean his own. Santiago, known as the Hometown Hero for his efforts supporting Children’s Charities, will take his 38’ Cigarette aptly titled "Zero Cavity" on the road, or shall we say water, to donate Children’s rides to a number of Race and Poker Run Events for the 2002 Season, including the upcoming Ft. Myers Beach Offshore Gran Prix. There, he will donate rides to children of the charities that the race event supports. In addition to giving the kids rides, the Doc will also become an Official Paceboat for the race and sport www.PokerRun.com on his boat. Through the sponsorship, Barkley Geib, owner of www.PokerRun.com and organizer of the Worlds’ Largest Poker Run at Lanier Harbor Marina , will be making a donation to the Ft. Myers Beach Offshore Gran Prix for their children’s charities. It’s a win - win for all. "The Doc and I both share a common goal to promote and support charities for children, so this year, we teamed up to give them rides and a donation to their fund," said Geib, who adds that it’s "all about the little people." Santiago will also be a Celebrity Guest at this years Lanier Harbor Marina Poker Run 2002, to be held the weekend of August 8th - 10th, 2002. There, he will be giving rides to the children of the Greater Atlanta Make-A-Wish® Foundation, as well as help raise funds for the Forsyth County Child Advocacy Center. Santiago, who previously attended the Ft. Myers Beach race volunteer parade and poker run, plans to keep the Ft. Myers Beach Offshore Gran Prix an annual event, making his reminder of last years flip all but a distant memory. He ended the season, and his racing career, impressively, taking the APBA Offshore National and Southeast Division Titles as well as the OPBRA FORCE Gold Cup Championship. "I decided to dedicate a little more time to the Kids this year, so instead of Racing for a trophy, I am racing for a smile," said Santiago with a big grin. Fans of all ages are encouraged to come by the Race Dry Pits or Wet Pits to see Dr. Santiago and get an autograph all weekend long.
