Narrowing Down My Choices

In this size range you have a lot of options. This is kind of how I would rank them, but I may be a little biased!
28 AT - not many of them out there
28 Pantera - similar ride as an AT with lower freeboard.
28 Powerplay - not many were made, but great boat
28 Apache - It will be pretty old if you are able to find one
288 Sunsation - lots out there, good value, nice craftsmanship and MCOB(mid-cabin open boat option
27/29 Kryptonite - more of a "hot rod" boat, but these things run good
27/30 Activator - Definitely a "hot rod" boat. Kills it in the rough
28 Saber - See Powerplay
28 Joker - cool boat, not many out there
29 Fountain - tons out there. Can probably get a steal
29 Formula
28 Donzi ZX
28 Nordic - similiar to Sunsations, but I like the Sunny's better
28-30 Baja - Decent boat for the money
26-28 Checkmate - See Baja

my choices would be...
pantera
formula
powerplay
sunsation
i would skip the fountain...just my opinion. they really lack space and i cannot stand the beak...haha also skip the baja...they just arent in the same league (build quality is not good at all)

Used to ruin alot of Fountain owner's days with a 500 crate motor, 28 pitch labbed bravo.
Don't know about the Active Thunder--never driven one.

I'm hoping that a few manufacturers make it to a couple of the boat shows in the area. The one in Annapolis is next week and there is one in Baltimore in January that I hear a lot of performance boats show. I'd really like to see a few.
