Thanx Nasty Habit !!! Yea iId look good behind the wheel of that one !!! Is that youres ? OK day shift anymore info ?? any nice ones for sale ?? Dog ass slow with 330s!!! thinking 500s might get me mid 70s ??? fresh water.

NASTY HABIT 05-10-2002 12:53 PM

nope not mine..... was the sister ship to the test boat spec-ed above.... 500s' would be much more appropriate... they offered up to 650 hawks i believe...

Brad 05-10-2002 03:38 PM

I would buy a 31 Bullet again

The Good
Well-built heavy boat with a great ride. Will spank a lot of bigger boats in rough water. Unique looking, large cabin, not a boat you see everyday.

The Bad
It’s a heavy boat that requires more HP to go fast. Small cockpit.

The Ugly.
Not sure when the last one was built, most of the bullets I have seen have a black dash. If you want a modern looking cig you will need to update the boat.

Russ OSO member for Savannah is currently having new graphics put on his 31. Do a search on OSO for some pictures,

Not sure if you would consider this a good or bad thing. Lot’s of wind in your face because of the low fairing.

For mid 70’s I think you will need 525 HP. I got 78.4 out of mine with 550HP, supposedly the current owner put on new bravos and was running around 82.

birdog 05-10-2002 03:43 PM

Are the ones i see with white dashes redone ? Hate that black dash!! Anyone remember the thread..Somebody put 2" shorties on 31 picked up lots of MPHs?? Love to talk to that guy.

Brad 05-10-2002 04:29 PM

Mine was a 91. Dave Hunter painted my dash. I bet you could pick up some speed by raising the drives.

birdog 05-10-2002 04:33 PM

Hey Brad...do you know what happened to youre old one ? Not for sale is it ?;)

AC 05-10-2002 04:33 PM

Have a 28 Cigarette and it's built like a brick house.
If you want a solid - heavy - great riding rough water boat -
Cigarette is the boat!

Good Luck!

AC

:D

birdog 05-10-2002 04:43 PM

Thanks AC....That is what I want! Plus the legend........I will find one sooner or later.

Brad 05-10-2002 05:04 PM

Cigarette.........Thats what everyone tells me !!!!:D

jafo 05-10-2002 08:48 PM

We were looking at Bullets last year- 'klaw' from the board gave us our first ride and up-close look at one. Hopefully he will jump in on your thread. His boat does 64 with 454 Mags (365hp)-terrific Cig and a great guy!!
They have a big cabin, and a few we looked at including klaws' had been updated to Gaffrigs including new panel. The notched transom does make a difference in speed and handling. Narrow your search to later models. The 2" shorter Imco does make a pretty big difference in top speed as well, but as with all boats with raised 'x', there are sacrifices at other speeds, including cruise and planing.
It is true that the boat is heavy and takes big power to go fast, but it has great rough water capability that will allow it to pass up a lot of other boats when it gets snotty.
It is unfortunate we didn't come up with one at the right price with the right power- I'd still own one if the right one came along. They didn't make a lot of 'em, and their owners tend to either keep them or ask top dollar when they sell.
I would opt for normally aspirated 540's on 1" shorter Imco's- built correctly they would be more reliable than supercharged engines and could get you the speeds you desire.
Make sure to get a survey done- some of the earlier years had a few issues with aft stringers and lower portions of the transom.

Good Luck on your search!

DJD 05-11-2002 07:06 PM

How about a real nice 1986 38' Flat Deck Cig?
T-625hp, SSM3A drives etc......
Mid $60s would take it!

birdog 05-11-2002 07:18 PM

Hey DJD. Dont think I havnt looked at youre boat a bunch of times!!! {Ive even commented on it a few times!} But a 38 is more than i think i need up here. If I was looking that big you & I woulda already talked!!!! Gotta love them flatdecks !!! Thanx & good luck:D I think the resale market is a bit slow now. Lots of boats have been around quite awhile.Im looking at the same 31s I saw back in Dec. when i started.

DJD 05-11-2002 08:07 PM

birdog, best of luck finding your new machine!
I just delivered my boat today to Ocean Performance in Old Saybrook for them to sell.
Have you called them for a 31? If not, try Chris @ 860 388-6000.
They usually can find anything if they don't have one there.
Dave

totalmp 05-12-2002 03:55 AM

The bullet is a great boat, and with the right set up, can achieve great speeds. We have a completely re-rigged 1992, boat ran 78.6 GPS with 500HP and IMCO shorties. Tested today for first time with new 540/800SC, boat ran 70+ at 4000 RPM. Speeds after break in will be high 90's. Please feel free to call me with any questions, as we know these boats from top to bottom.

Thanks,

Stephen Emmons

birdog 05-12-2002 07:44 AM

Found one I want to look at.......May need to power it though...Totalmp..Do you have the 500s from youres?? that is about what i need speed wise. Too old. Ill end up spending as much as DJDs 38 on a 31 !!!! sounds kinda stupid but i just cant afford to power a 38 !!! {working stiff Ya Know!} The one i want to look at is on OSO Ads. Sounds like nice boat & straight up owner. couple more to look at also. Hope you guys dont get sick of me.I ask lots of questions!!!!!:D This is THE place for answers!!!

birdog 05-13-2002 02:29 PM
