Phenomenon Update?

Yesterday someone posted on Serious that it sank. Has anyone heard anything?

Catmando 10-31-2010 11:27 AM

LOL. SOS already sunk months ago. 5 threads a day of "hi ho". What a joke. :drink:

I have contacted their public relations firm several times, which I was instructed to do going forward after I wrote this article, http://boatermouth.com//index.php?vi...ntent&Itemid=8. (Apparently, a few people inside the Phenomenon camp were not pleased with my take.) To date, my contact person there has supplied no updates. I will contact her again tomorrow to see what I can find out.

LubeJobs42 10-31-2010 01:49 PM

To spend that kind of money and give up is crazy. Especially when you watch the video and see that it was being done as a Legacy for Al Sr., you would think that it would take more then a few "set backs" to kill the project.

They should have bought the Mystic that was displayed at the show, put the 4 turbines in that and fulfilled Al Sr. dream.

tomtbone1993 10-31-2010 01:55 PM

if it sank it was Bush's fault.....

Wouldn't require 4 turbines :)

Sure would be cool to see you and JT take a run at it.

SHAWN DAVIS 11-01-2010 01:57 PM

I thought I read an article a while back where it partially sank and was towed to the launch.

VortechSS 11-01-2010 02:31 PM

Its odd that the Copelands restaurant here in BA Oklahoma closed its doors a week ago!

I sure hope things arent going downhill enough for them to actually quit the build.

LaughingCat 11-01-2010 03:55 PM

Can't imagine what they didn't like about your last story.

Sometimes i wonder if it would not be better to just mount a hull to a fast airplane (small jet) and land it at speed on the water. You could set the water speed record and then fly home

At this point we are over the take off speed of any plane anyways so instead of a fast boat setting a speed record that should be done in an airplane why not set a slow jet down on the water with a fiberglass hull might be a more prudent thing to do :)

(No offence Kilo Kat just tounge and cheek)

By the way Dave and Johhny still rule the water if you ask me

vette131 11-02-2010 07:14 AM

there was only one big Al, those are big shies to fill!!

Yes they are! Spent time with him on several occassions and he was bigger than life but always a gentleman.

Still don't know what is going on with "Phenomenon". Matt, I couldn't read your story becasue my computer froze up when I clicked on to your link. What did you say that bugged them? Phenomenon was Big Al's dream and I think everyone wanted to see it break the speed record as a tribute to one of the Legends of Offshore Powerboat Racing.

Not exactly. I believe they landed in the low 170mph mark (could be wrong). I cant remember where, but I read that they had to land between 150mph and 175mph (so the plane would not nose dive or land too hard) at exactly an 11 degree angle.

We have been out of touch, but have not quit the project. We still remain focused on the goal of the speed record and are currently working in that direction. Scott had to have surgery on his arm for a detached bicep and this slowed down the project a litttle bit. We are awaiting new thrust tubes that will allow us to attach a tiebar between the drives so that we may continue our testing. Will be back in the water next month and will keep you updated. Thanks for your support in this project, as always our focus is to make Al's wish of breaking the record come true and we will.

WARPARTY36 11-02-2010 01:01 PM

That's great to hear Scott:drink: Be safe:coolcowboy:

Thanks for updating. One question (I'll be blunt and not dance around the obvious) ... any validity to the rumor of the boat going under? I noticed that wasn't addressed one way or another with your update? If so, what happened?

I believe you can break the propeller speed record(220mph Miss Budweiser).
