EMERGENCY!! Cabin filled with water!!

I havent been down to my boat in a couple weeks.....its a 33' outlaw sitting on a hydrahoist lift. When I got down the front of the boat was almost in the water. The bilge didnt do much....I let some air out of the back and I got enough water out to get the front higher then the back. Now I see the cabin has water in it up to the seats. I am afraid to go up near it and causing the frt to go under with all that weight on the lift pontoons. I will try to get a sump pump and pump it out but will there still be alot of water in the hull and how do I get it out??? Please help.....

I think you have the right idea... sump pump.... good luck.

brian18330 11-05-2010 03:53 PM

will it all slowly drain to the back?

Ron P 11-05-2010 04:00 PM

As long as the weep holes in the boat aren't clogged with carpet and junk.

mikebrls 11-05-2010 04:02 PM

i think if you keep the front up a bit and the back down some the water should drain out the back. you mite have a clogged line in the cabin that's not letting it drain .
normally when u store a boat the bow is should be up a at a higher degree of angle so the water can flow down hill .
but who's to say if u had the drain plug in and the bilge pump didnt work it would be your motor under water and that would be way worse of a fix and a lot more $$ .
just my opinion .
once you get it drained out you mite want to take a air hose to the drain in the front of the boat and make sure it's not clogged . then recheck, take 5 gallon pale of water and put were drain is in the cabin, and slowly spill in to drain and wait and see if it come out to the bilge

good luck i hope u find the problem
mike

That sucks. Hope you can safely resolve the problem. good luck.

Can't you let some of the air out of the rear compartments on the tanks? That was the way we normally began to bring the boat down with the hydrohoists we have had. If the front is full of air, let some out of the rear to to get the water back to the bilge pump. ??

Its not draining to the back for some reason? I did take some air out and the boat started rolling (the lift) the pontoons were underwater and the whole one side would go way down then settle! my stomach is still turning! My question is there water under the cabin? or does this drain to the back....no water in the back of the boat.

Secure boat to dock with lines then pump out. Make sure it does not get worse than it is now while you try to pump it out.

My buddy and I did his 29 Outlaw last year, we both took our shop vacs and pulled 5 gallons at a time each, only took about 30 mins between the two of us. It would fill the vacuum bucket in less than 40 seconds, very effective way, no sure how fast a sump pump would draw. It was crazy, after we were done, you couldn't even tell there was any water in the boat. Good Luck

PhantomChaos 11-05-2010 11:23 PM

I would have added more water to the back to make it even, then more in the front, then in the back, the front.......ya never know. :D

Helped a freind of mine when something similiar happened to his boat, his was almost totally under water,we rented a commercial water pump at one of local equipment rental places ($60 a day) and it pumped all the water out in about 20-30 minutes, i think it was rated at 5000 gallons per hour!

Once you've got the water out, check the bilge pump up front. The 25 outlaw I have right now has one under the step going down into the cabin. It had died, and water piled up in my cabin as well. good luck.

+1 on the shop vac thing. works great except you have to empty it every 30 seconds.

In most boats, the bulkheaads and stringers have drain holes glassed in so the water runs to the back of the boat and can be drained out the plug(s) in the transom.

As a quick fix to get some of the water out, just get a 15' length of garden hose, drop one end in the water in the cabin and suck hard on the other end to create a siphon.

How is that much water getting in???????????

I had a 27 Baja that got some water in the cabin. I discovered a disconnected drain line coming off the anchor locker. I would check that first...if you have one.

bajarick 11-06-2010 06:25 AM

You have a bilge pump under the steps that
pumps the cuddy, when you get the water out
check the fuse its by the port side battery switch.

Exactly, that's sounds like a lot of water. Where is it coming in at?

brian18330 11-06-2010 12:32 PM

***UPDATE***
Thanks for all your help, I got a 12 gal shop vac and punped 7 loads out of the cabin. Then I stuck it to the drain and lost count at 3 more loads. All the water came from rain.....but Im wondering if alot of that water wasnt in there for a while??? The water was so dirty too. Im hoping that water was in there for a while and now with it removed I will do 90!! Lol. I did notice it going slower lately and its been sitting lower on the lift too. Now it sits higher. Thanks again.

Griff 11-06-2010 01:25 PM

It may be coming in from rain, but where at????? It should not get that much water in it if rained a foot. That is a 120+ gallons of water and about a 1000 pounds.

fbc25el 11-06-2010 04:40 PM

Can you throw a 1/2 hose in it and syphon the water out?

Nort....sometimes your ideas arent that good.

tinman565 11-06-2010 04:53 PM

The 2 newer, larger Shop vacs I have (one is a Rigid brand from Home Depot) have drain ports in the bottom side of the container that you can hook a garden hose to...or adapt a larger hose to it. This way you suck the liquid out of whatever...and you dont hafta drain the container as often, or not at all. Just something to think about. Hell...you could prolly get some kinda re-sealable drain kit...and put a hole in the lower side of your vac yourself. :drink:
