You must run a sealed “SBIP Certified Race Engine” Which are: The Mercury 525 Sealed engine is approved for competition The Mercury 500 EFI Sealed engine with the Innovation upgrade is approved for competition. The Innovation HP3 Sealed engine is approved for competition. The SBIP 525 HP Sealed engine is approved for competition. Certification and Sealing - To be eligible for competition in these classes, all individual engines of the approved type listed in paragraph 1.12. above, first must be certified and sealed prior to competition by an SBIP approved source in accordance with the then existing procedures established by SBIP, with the “approved” seals as supplied from SBIP. IT IS THE RACERS' RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE THEIR ENGINE (S) INSPECTED AND SEALED BY an SBIP approved source. If for any reason a seal is broken or the engine must be “freshened” or repaired, the engine must be examined, repaired, serviced and re-certified by an SBIP approved source. Broken or missing seals will be grounds for disqualification and other penalties. Currently the ONLY Approved Sealing & Servicing Center is: Mercury Racing N 7480 County Rd. “UU” Fond du Lac, WI Phone: 920-921-5330 Innovation Marine 8011 15th St. East Sarasota, FL 34243 Phone:941-355-6791 ================= They were running, amongst other things, an aluminum flywheel - which are not an approved component of a "SBIP Certified Race Engine" |

Do the rules specifically state no aluminum flywheels?Because I would not consider that part of a sealed engine.

Nothing about an aluminum flywheel unless it falls under "etc"....Maybe they should factory seal the flywheels then. |
