A little longer than what you said, but a Baja 342 would fit the bill. I have generator, SP, A/C, heat, fresh water, vacuflush head, full galley and 70 MPH. 1998 - 2001 model years can be had in this price range. Don't have the width issues trailering either.
There's a Monterey 298 at our marina in Norris. It's a nice looking boat, but wide. I've always liked the Formula 310 and 330 SS series. Again wide. |
Neighbor has a Formula 330SS - VERY appealing boat in this category if you ask me.

My neighbours 330SS is sitting in my shop and it's for sale as he went back into ASCS sprint car racing in a big way.
Has twin 6.2's Bravo 3's, only 108 hours and it's a 2006 with all the desirable options sitting on a triple axle aluminum trailer. Used once this year. I'll be getting an ad up as soon as I have the time. Easy to tow, but it is a wide load. |
Russ,
I saw that 298, not crazy about the hull color but I like the boat and price. just talking shot right now not ready to start looking yet, our 5 wk old baby is my priority at the moment. |

I only ask because I have the same truck, even same color! Towing my 32 Sunsation is uneventful and I picked up my buddies 38 TG a few months back on a steel myco (for a 42X) and it was a little slow to get going and had a slight sway. |

The boat towed very well, did not push me or sway and with the mirrors out you can see behind you well enough. The trailer has surge brakes that get the job done, again I'd prefer electric over hydraulic if I was to highway tow on a regular basis. This boat has always been trailered and towed by a 2wd F250. |
Does anyone know the height of these style boats on a trailer?

I've got a Sea Ray 280ss with the arch. It's 10'-6" from the ground up on an aluminum dual axle trailer. Another boat to look at in the 28' range is the Chaparral 280ssi. It looks good and runs close to 60. If it's in your price range look at the Powerquest 320sc. Unlike the Formula 330ss it has a small mid cabin which really adds room.

I have a 336 Formula and was a guest on a 330 SS Formula. Lots of room for day boating and same Formula quality. The ride, however, was night and day. I took the same family out on our boat a couple weeks later and they remarked on the difference in ride. It's not bad, it's just what you're willing to trade for cruiser amenities.
