Default Yamaha 250 SHO 4-Stroke

Anyone have any experience with these? Pop's wants to order a new 'toon with one but just saw that they recomend 89 octane and we're pretty much limited to 87. According to a few things I dug up they'll run fine on 87 just not quit as much horsepower. Would appreciate any input before I head over to the fishing forums...

john, the sho motors are a somewhat hot topic on the bass forums and even been discussed on S&F so I am sure that a quick trip there will get you all the info you want (assuming it doesnt get answered here)

We have sold a few on pontoons, sweet setup.Lots of midrange.good top end,and extremely quiet.Did not know about the fuel requirement, but most marinas on our lake sell mid grade, which is 89.I am going to run one next spring on my personal pontoon,it is a sweet motor

Go over to the Hulltruth.com. Do a search, the subject has been beat to death. I have a Yamaha 4 stroke on a CC. 80 trouble free hrs last summer not the SHO though. Quite, great midrange and good fuel economy.

Thanks David.

Looked on Hull Truth and didn't find much, maybe I need to take another look. Called Yamaha cust service and they did not recommend running 87 exclusively. I think he's back looking at a Verado. Merc tech said the 250 Pro will still run great with 87 and absolutely will not hurt the motor.

We'll def come visit next summer. You've got an open invite at our place too. Always beer in the fridge and margaritas in the blender.
