I remember doing several investment looks at the marine business, Fountain in particular. Even during good times, they were run like crap, financially speaking. Reggie is a dynamic force, always has been. I'm sure Liberty knows full well his character. Given the chance, I'd bet for sure that Reggie would come out with another line and screw Liberty in a heartbeat.

He founded the business, built a great brand name and network, and things were done before this boating industry depression to make it shaky. I think he's in the best position he could be in now, where he can't do as much damage as before. My guess is his own drive and ego will make him do it again. I hope not, he could do a lot of good things in the position he's in now, and maintain his legacy proudly. Time will tell.

I didn't mean it in a bad way. I'm sure there are pages to this story that he can't tell just yet....

I know you didn't.

What I got from Mr. Fountain during our conversation was that he had not made a decision. For lack of anything to contradict that, I take him at his word.

He did say that the "escorted from the building" and "not allowed inside the plant" reports were untrue. Lacking anything solid to contradict that as well, I take him at his word.

It wouldn't be the same without him. I hope he stays! When I see him on poker runs, he would thank me for running his boats and even though I had bought it used, he made me feel like a valuable customer!

It helps to be a neighbor, too.

All joking aside, I know first hand how he feels. After 24 years designing Baja models, and loving the industry, myself along with many other "lifetime" employees last days were spent loading trucks headed to NC. One of Fountain's transition persons did do us a great deed, and allowed us to have all the vinyl, and canvas patterns on the older model Baja's that they did not intend to build, or represent.

As Bill Murry would say: "I got that going for me"
