OT:I should have stayed in bed today !!!
Well,
I was told today that as of July 1st I will be layed off. I guess the only good thing is I'm last on the list so if someone quits I could be saved ! Big deal ! I've been looking for a job for the past month and there is absolutely no work at the moment. There was a article in the Sunday Freepress about a person (in my field ) that has been layed off and is now valeting cars. Not to promising ! Oh well , just venting I'm thinking if anyone needs any boats transported around I've got a new 2500/Cummins Ram and I'd be willing to tow some boats around. |
That ceratinly does make for a bad day..... hope everyhting works out for the better.. sometimes these things do ..
|
DUDE, that SUCKS
|
26Scarab,
I feel your pain brother , Ive been laid off for the past month and a half. The only thing worst than you is my wife worked for the same company that I did and she's laid off with me. So we are both S*#T out of luck. Hang in there Bro something will come along soon for you. As for me I'm still waiting , and Doing what I have to.  |
Me too 2 weeks ago and it stinks cause Im self taught and have a
experience only background 15 yrs civil/electrical background 6 years Autocad design drafting I will not get a lot of use out of the boat if Im not working, a day out cost about 200 in gas at least I can fall back on the DJ Biz www.topdj.com will work anywhere in central NY 3600 watts, lights, fog, 40000 songs come guys I need gas money |
You are looking at this all wrong. Today should be the best day of your live!
I had worked for other people for 16+ years. I was told one day that I was going to be let go since they did not need me anymore. Instead of staying knocked down I got up & started my own business. It was a struggle for the first couple of years but I was determined not to fail. Looking back they did me a big favor. If it were not for being laid off I would have never gotten off my duff & started my own business. I wish now they had laid me off sooner so I would not have spent so much time working for HIM instead of myself. I do not know what you do for a living but you now have 2+ months to decide what you want to do. Go for it, the road may be hard, you may get knocked down a few times but just get back up & try again. You have an advantage over me, I was let go the day they told me. Good luck |
It is amazing that this whole job dilema spans the country and all type of job markets.
I originally thought that the automotive industry is pretty much the only one that is a constant roller coaster ride. And yes Turbojack , I do have to agree with you . These things usually turn out for the better. If been thru this before and it sucks when it happens and while your in it but usually you come out ahead of where you were. |
keep a + attitude every time a door closes another one opens up
sounds silly but it is true Mattyboy |
Man I am really sorry to hear that. Hang in there and hopefully you will not be the one that is parking cars for a living. Good luck
Jon |
That's a drag, Chuck. Hope you find something soon. If you can get past the uncertainty and the lousy job market, July 1 really is a good time to not have to go to work, as a boater. Ok, I know it's still not ideal, but I'm trying to find something positive here... Good Luck and we'll see you on the water.
|
That really sucks Chuck..
I know been there done that for the past two years.. Well just think positive, get that resume polished and published. Mich Works is a good place. When you go for unemployment they make you sign up. I have had several hits off of that site. Now save what you can for gas money.. and tell all your friends that dont have boats to take one or two days a week off.. Have them rotate and buy the gas.. That way you can boat the rest of the summer!! If you schedule the rest of the summer, you will have every business in the world bugging you to come work for them. Hold out as long as you can for the best offer, then reschedule the boating for the weekends..... Stay positive man.. I did this last summer had the schedule all made out and the boat never ran... but yours runs.. so go for it!! Think Positive!! Think Positive!! Think Positive! Dick |
Hey Dick,
I bet your glad to be home ! Yes the Michworks site is really good. Your right about the scheduling thing. This really isn't going to be too bad as long as I can find some "under the table income" , the job market is going to turn around, they aren't going to stop designing cars it is just going to take probably eight months to a year. It is a good thing that the boat is done, now I just have to work on keeping it !! I will probably be on your side of the state May 29th for the monthly fun run. I've been talking to Rambunctious quite a bit. So maybe we can hook up. I might be riding solo so I could use a copilot ! |
Chuck,
I was home for about two days+.... Now I am in Schaumburg, IL.. I will be headed home for the weekend to work on the boat motor. I have the truck down here with me.. It is running pretty good after the trans rebuild. Still a lot of bugs to work out, but progress is being made!! Well time for bed. have to be able to think in the morning.. Good luck my friend!! Dick |
Sorry to hear about that. We went throught the same thing a couple times already. Its not easy, I hope it all works out.
Are still working for Plastech? We've had a couple engineers move over to there. Dean Stevens, and Dan Haser. Sound familar? Have you given Mascotech, or Bartech a call yet? I'll keep my ear to the ground over at Visteon but right now things are tough. If we start looking for anyone I'll let you know. Best of luck. |
Chuck,
i don't understand.....!!! it floors me. Did Wally call you. I spoke with him personally and he said he got your email and would call you to not leave you hanging regarding seeing your email. I'm off and runnin. we need Plastech people, i can tell you the exact projects.................... I'll be right back. I'm confident it will work out better for you because you will soon be enjoying the sunny west coast ( of Michigan). Heck... our beaches are cleaner and whiter than Santa Monica !! |
People in this town would give a arm to park cars, especially at the big hotels. They make some good money and Sam doesn't see all of it. Good Luck
|
Rambunctious, who do you work for over there. I know a couple people on that side of the state in PD.
|
Chuck, Let me know when the bidding starts on the Scarab?!?! LOL j/k.....bad joke.
Bummer about the job situation, at least you have a notice and it's not same day like alot of people.  |
Hey Man, give me a P. Mess. and I'll hook you up with my Brother who places Engineers , Designers maybe He ,or one of his bud's can help out. I'm over here at DCX on CATIA doing Advanced Design stuff. Sorry about your plite, we went through some of that here at Chrysler, thank goodness I'm union represented, sort of a blue/white collar thing, works for Me and the Misses. Let Me know glad to help !!!! :)
|
Sounds like we have a butt load of designers and engineers here.
It turns out that Rambunctious and I use to work in the same building, got hired at the same time, worked 1 floor apart, and worked for the same contract house over ten years ago. Rambunctious worked as an engineer and I was a designer on two different commodities. He now works in the same building for the same company as my wifes old roomates/bridemaids brother. But we never met. Talk about a small world. Rambunctious, ever get Kevin's biscuits and gravy in the cafeteria? God I miss that cafe. What a place to work. |
not to detract fom your concern Chuck......
but .....oh yea, and the lumpy mashed potatoes and chicken on a cold rainy day. mmmmmmm goooood. The good days at Fords... and the time the summer intern backed a prototype vehicle into a garage column and we faked a Ron Gould, General Manager, voice mail to the intern stating his salary would be garnished for the repair. (Gould would look at you over his 1/2 lens glasses, very intimidating) That intern was sweating!!!!:p oh, and grunge night at Milan Dragway where you could race all night for $9. boy those rednecks would look when we showed up in dress suits and a full face helmet. and the standing Ford engineer commute drag race from light to light down Mich ave on our way home to Canton township ( basically a "Fords" community) like Chuck said, "cars.........we'll make more........" |
Thanks allot for all the replies !
I'm definitly going to try and maintain a postive attitude through this whole thing. :D |
So Chuck, I'm assuming that Mem. Day at LOTO is a no-go now???
|
WF,
Yes , LOTO is a no go:( I know it isn't going to be a REAL expensive weekend but I still can't justify spending the money. Hey check your PM |
Mike, chuck is giving up LOTO but has a much better offer. He is joining us on our May 29th fun run!!!!. I guess I 'll be second to the Pier this time..... not third.......right Mike
