Carl built the K drive a while ago the drive swiveled in the middle and the gimbal was only trim in or out, as I understand. Mr K pulled the plug as the sealing problems proved very expensive to deal with.
The #6 came later Via Fred and Gary I asked in 87 about a stronger drive along the K's lines when Fred and Gary were in the truck with us got no real answer but enough to know something was up.

There was a story (I'm not sure this is correct) that Fred was commisioned to build that drive by someone, and then that person pulled the plug. But, Fred was along so far with the race drive that he decided to produce it anyway. It was interesting and I wish someone that knows it would tell it.

"True" is a technicality. I read these and found them informative...
http://www.mercuryracing.com/blog/st...han-you-think/ This one is about drive power losses.
and
http://www.mercuryracing.com/blog/dry-sump-pump-it-up/ This one is about engine dry sumping, but the principles are similar.
