oldie but goodie???
In my never ending search for an affordable overnighter-sport cruiser I stumbled across another unit well within my budget that'll
even allow me funds to perform additional necessary items that seem to come with every unit in my price range. Do any of y'all recognize this boat? Should I be apprehensive of a nearly 30 year old boat? Everything in my price range seems to be up to the mid 90's. I've seldomly even clicked on boats from the 80's for sale. This is a 1983 Formula F402 SR1 http://i.ebayimg.com/16/!B0GmRigBWk~...klm4Mg~~_3.JPG I'm not having any luck grabbing some other large pic's to paste, they end up showing like a postage stamp on preview post. Here's a link to the sellers photo hosting album. http://s687.photobucket.com/albums/v...0%20GO%20FAST/ The only thing missing for me is a micro and a cooktop. I'm open to any and all input, thanks again for you guys thoughts. See ya, Kelly |
get a good survey, well worth the $$$. If its never had a transom/stringers put in it, look at those areas carefully.

It looks like a nice boat, hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like it has TRS outdrives. The are very strong drives and if not neglected will live practictally for ever. They had a hydraulic trans inside the boat behind the engine. The earlier units had a Merc Trans II, not too strong and very difficult to get parts for. Not a deal breaker just something to be aware of. If they are later units then the trans would be a Velvet drive, they are better, stronger and easier to service and get parts for. It is a pleasure to shift between forward and reverse on any TRS because the trans is like an automatic on a car, no gears grinding. Like earlier stated get a good survey and enjoy the new toy if it all works out.

That looks like a well cared for boat. Looks huge on that trailer for some reason.

I'll probably only get one chance in my lifetime to make this type of boat purchase, it's a must that I'm well informed and take my time searching for just the right one. I stumbled across this website shortly after school started when I started my search and give it a A+++ score on great intel and it's members. See ya, Kelly |
They're a big heavy slow boat but they sure are a great riding boat. My father owned one when I was a little kid. He blew TRS's on it with just Mercruiser 330's infront of them. Its a huge boat with alot of cabin and cockpit room. Im sure he'll post up some pics and info on our old one.

Yea but I doubt hell be in the Ocean (assuming you guys were). If hes easy on it those drives will be fine. Its not the kinda boat that pops out of the water

I've seen that one on Lake Michigan for years. Cool boat.

Ask Ted on here or Scott church. they can tell you about how they are. nothing wrong with formulas if they are taken care of...great boat.
