Boats made in Norway
Hi Guys
I hope 2011 will be a good year for boating, both pleasure and business wise.
Here in Norway we only have to freeze some months before the boating season starts in the end of May. It has already been a hard winter, one and a half month with -10 to - 20
(F 14 to -4).
Even though the boating seasons are short and fuel prices are insane, there are some nice and interesting boat builders also in Norway. Many of you already know two famous Norwegians at the US powerboat scene, Trond & Nils the guys behind Nor - Tech.
In this thread I am going to present 3 Norwegian boat builders: Hydrolift, Goldfish and Windy. I have no commercial interest in any of the mentioned companies or in the boating business.
Let’s start with Hydrolift
History: Started in 1985, some young guys build speed boats for outboard motors in their "Garage" (See pic 1988). During the 90s they had developed several models (see pic 1995).
The Hydrolift F-26 with a Merc 500EFI did 75 mph.(see pic F-26). The F-hull has been used as mold to many other Norwegian sport boats. In 2002 Hydrolift was bought by a Norwegian designer Bård Eiker. Mr. Eiker has also been an Offshore Class One driver, together with the famous throttle man Steve Curtis. There are some nice pictures at their web page.

Since 2002 it has happened a lot at Hydrolift, the range og boats are now from 24 - 32 feet. The boats are a combination of performance and pleasure. Exclusive design and innovative details, one example the C-27 cab (see pic 27 cab). This boat must be the perfect combination of a Performance boat and a day cruiser. Very efficient hull, roomy and practical, (almost as perfect combination as my Formula 242 SS 1988 he he)
Speed 58 mph with Volvo D6 330 Hp (Diesel).
Install a 700 Hp (Gaz) it should reach 81 mph.
The boats are made in Norway, with a high level of quality and a rather high price tag. Ex. C-27 Cab single 6,2 320 hp, start price in Norway aprox. Usd 270.000,- To compare the new Formula 290 FX4 twin 320 hp, has aprox the same price tag in Norway. The C-27 single 320 hp, will do aprox the same speed as the FX4 with double installation.

I think they are using Volvo and Yanmar for diesel engines
and Merc and Ilmor as petrol engines.
I think the Ilmor MV10-725 are their biggest singel engine
option. With that engine the C-27 should be able to reach
82 mph, not bad at all :-)
