I think a 40ft pleasure Huslter was the first, in the late 80's. Velocity was the first in their 30ft in the under 38 catagory. The Velocity didnt have Merc power but I believe the Hustler did, triples though. It was something I believe in 1998 that the 36 or 40 Skater was the first pleasure boat to break 140mph with stock Mercury power. Before my time as well I just know a bunch of old people.

It was before Dan's time too!!! ....I believe, in 82' the Excalibur Hawk ran 101.2 MPH with Merc 420's with the upgraded DUAL point distributor, a cool can, and a lighter spring in the vaccum secondaries.

That would've been a fast boat in its day. A 38 fountain with 800s and 6s.....

My 1989 Apache 41 was built as a pleasure boat, with Merc 1000 SC's, and went 104 @ Lake X, before we raced it.

That was 1989.

Since Velocity did it with their 31 footer back in 1980 or 81, I would suggest that a larger pleasure Vee did it within a couple of years after that. Fountain was just beginning and only had the 10 meter (33 foot) Excalibur Executioner but they were pretty fast. I would guess that Apache or Velocity did it by 1985. Certainly the Open Class Vees were running over 100 by then and the big triple engine Cougars and Apaches also were available. Since some "pleasure boats" sported everything from Gale Banks Chryslers to full race Mercruiser and Eickhert power back then , the power was certainly available.

Hard to say, who, specifically, was first.
