You should look at CMI's new GEN-X replacement header for the 525efi these can be ordered in the same drilling and will not suffer the cracking problem that the 05-06 Merc 525 CMI headers do and should be a direct bolt in replacement. I have no expierence with the Hardin units and I hear they can be a good header, but it depends as you might want to research the Hardin headers here on OSO>

What about the 2004 and earlier CMI's that came on the 525's? are they prone to cracking as well?

Just saw that Hardin Marine has replacements for the 525 headers called "Hurricane Lites" and they even make them with the "CMI flange" as their literature states. Were listed around $5K per set depending on the place selling them.

LOL. NOOOO... but there has been some "developments".
Just reading some of these "older" posts, one of these days I have to do some "eleboration" and some detailed comments, but for now, just working on getting the lady on the water again. Motors are good. Headers? hmmm.. no comment.

Not enough of those engines out there to warrant the tooling up by SM I bet. Adapter plate a possibility, but close engine installations (side by side) would have some clearance issues...

Sold several sets of standard SM's to folks running 540's, no issues, no worries. Choose your riser properly and you won't ever look back once you switch!
