Forum posting & reply rules

Dear, Offshore Only moderator & community
Over the last few years I found the OSO community to be very resourceful and knowledgeable site regarding the sport offshore boating. I am very grateful to this site and the community in helping me learn about the industry and to follow racing and poker runs.
Because of this I am now interested in posting or replying in the forums. I would not mind upgrading to the correct level of membership to do this, as I feel the wealth of knowledge and support far exceeds the cost of a membership.
However, I do not own an offshore boat or any type of boat, rather I am just a fan of the sport and I've always loved offshore powerboats.
Does a member of the forum community have to own, or have owned offshore boats to post or reply in the forums?
I ask this out of respect to the site and the type and level of your community members.
Regards,
David

You are here now......and posting. Welcome!

BLee 01-13-2011 03:02 PM

LOL, no...you don't have to currently own a boat of any kind, or have to have owned one in the past, in order to post on the site. That would cut the number of members in half if you did.

Feel free to post away, but try to remember that there are others posting that do not own a performance boat, but sometimes post comments or opinions about them that imply they do. If you're looking to learn about various performance boats, you'll have to learn to decide who's comments come from personal experience, & who's comments are just based on assumptions, which may be inaccurate.

seafordguy 01-13-2011 03:15 PM

Post away - we have lots without boats, lots without performance boats, and lots with without functional boats

Post away. Everyone starts somewhere. Just don't create stories to seem important. At some point there'll be a thread that you can help someone out on. So do it and help them out.

What goes around comes around.

LOL on the Cash bar.

dreamer has a good point, while you only have a post is the time to change your screen name if you'd like, once you lock in a name and people know you it's hard to change.

And getting confused with dreamer is not necessarily a good thing :lolhit::grinser010::grinser010:

CigDaze 01-14-2011 07:51 AM

Welcome and enjoy! :)

If having a boat was a requirement, we wouldn't have a tenth of the membership we have now. :D

PatriYacht 01-14-2011 08:25 AM

I especially like the comment about non running boats, we have tons of members that only work on their boats and never seem to use them, some even have multiple non operative boats:party-smiley-004: Donna

I'm glad I scrolled down and saw this. Almost posted a comment about asking CS if someone can post without owning a boat. Ha

fireboatpilot 01-14-2011 03:21 PM

Can anyone tell I photo shopped the boat in behind my truck? Does anyone really own their boat? Banks name is on half of them, Too Funny!

Offshore Dreamer 01-14-2011 05:34 PM

Thanks for all the welcome notes and advice regarding posting!

@ Dreamer, Sorry I about the similar screen name. I realized the likeness after signing up.
I'll try to figure out how to change shortly.

Since I don't have a boat now, If I'm ever lucky enough to get one I should be well versed in my hobby via the OSO community aptitude.
At least it's nice to see that I am in good company as a non boat owning member of OSO

"Offshore Dreamer" is more than different enough from "dreamer", compared to quite a few other ones on here that have almost the same name. I don't think anyone is going to be confused, unless you just want to change it.

We'll assume you're different than OG dreamer.....don't make us regret it :lolhit:

LMAO!!!

Offshore I think you'll enjoy membership here.
I'm a soon to be boat owner again and these guys and gals have assisted me bigtime in making quality decisions on potential purchases and they make me laugh every day.
I've found my past little boats were like all my toys, purchasing them was the easiest part, it's every day after that that's difficult, LOL!!!

Welcome to the board.

See ya,
Kelly
