Barnaget Bay.......

Lots of activity on the Bay this weekend.
Ill be down tonight with the intention of launching the boat tomorrow, hopefully not in the rain.
I saw a post somewhere in the last few days about a raft up over the weekend......Anyone know the details. This was not Chucks jiggy which is on the west side of the state. Im bummed to miss that.
Well between Skaterfest, the first launch of the season, my first appearance at the Waters Edge for the summer and all the OSO members that are going to be around, I geuss I should get to the bank and pick up a little extra coin.

Where and who is rafting up in BB?

Ron P 05-17-2002 11:00 AM

Make sure you stop by Skaterfest. It's at the very end of the Metedeconk river.

Silver Bay is the usual rafting area.

Iggy 05-17-2002 11:30 AM

You guys still hang out in Silver Bay?
Back in the sixties you could find over two hunderd boats there on a summer weekend.
I grew up skiing in the cove.
My parents had a house in Snug Harbor, the very west end of the bay.
Lots and lots of memories.

Tantrum 05-17-2002 12:13 PM

Just got back from the bank.

Ron P,
I will definately be at Skaterfest on both Saturday and Sunday. I thought I saw a post about some one haveing a raft up down towards LBI. Maybe that was for Memorial Day?
Iggy,
I waterskied the cove in Silver Bay every summer day (weekday) for atleast three years. The weekends get full with too many maroons in the water. Back when I was skiing there were no Jet Ski's and you pretty much had the cove to yourself (with a little wet down you could almost garantee it). Not the case anymore.

Iggy 05-17-2002 12:33 PM

My parents had their house from 1963 till 1978.
Back then there was little skiing traffic.

Cattus Island was still private property. They had guard dogs running loose all day and night.

We used to know the guy who owned the house above the beach back then. Wish I could remember his name. He would bring coolers full of soda out to share with all us kids. He had a small cove/lagoon dredged that went up to his house and he kept a 50 ft boat there.
Then Jimmy Johnson bought the place and he would drive down on his tractor to chase us off. If he caught you fishing he'd take all you gear. Sometimes he'd have the police stand guard so nobody stepped foot on his property. Jerk!

Lots of stories.

Iggy didn't know you where from Toms River, My folks had a place right off of Fisher Blvd. behind , Dover Marine, spent alot of time at Silver Bay, Glad I live in Florida now though!:D

Ron P 05-17-2002 01:13 PM

My back yard is on Silver Bay and I can assure you that it is still the place to raft up on the weekend. The bigger boats usually stay overnight.

If the weekend is nice you can count on a few hundred boats to be anchored in the cove.

I'll have to post a photo for you sometime over the summer.

Iggy 05-17-2002 01:24 PM

Thanks Ron, I'd like that.
Where do you live that your back yard is on the bay?
It's either someplace off Fisher Blvd. or off Silverton Road.

Mike,
Dover Marine is up near the Rt. 37 and Fisher Blvd. intersection? Firehouse nextstore?
If so, we used to have my engine serviced there and my boat winter stored there.
Snug Harbor is down by the Hooper Ave. end of Fisher.
I'm glad to be here too, I guess. Miss the area and friends but not the winter.

We still stop at Pizza King every time we're in town. Best damn cheese steak sandwiches and pizza in the area.

After I got married we bought a house in Beachwood. Lived there till Nov. '87 then moved to Florida.
Family, in-laws, still live in Toms River and Bayville.

Now I'm getting homesick.

And one facing Fischer Blvd. I'll have to send in a photo of what a busy weekend looks like.

Iggy 05-17-2002 02:43 PM

Cool!!
I know exactly where you live now.
I used to live off the second lagoon to your left, east of the marina. If things haven't changed too much that is.
Pull out a local map. I used to live on Skiff Court #1825, next to last house at the very end, left side (south side) of street.

Back when I lived there the area where your house is now was all swamp.
Cove looks like it's changed a lot.

You're very lucky to be living there.
Thanks.

Looking at the last pic again, I think the houses, where yours is, were there when I was living there.
Not many houses today are built with ramps in the back yard!

Ron P 05-17-2002 03:28 PM

Our lot was owned by the guy who ownes the Pizza King, now known as Mugsy's.

The ramp was there already so we left it to dock Jet Ski's.

I know where Skiff Ct is, its off Fischer I beleive.

Those photos are all facing South.

Iggy 05-17-2002 04:45 PM

I knew what direction the shots were facing.

Your house used to belong to Mr. Biamonte. I think I spelled it right. Every kid in the area knew "Mr.B".
He was, many years ago, a Dover Township cop.
The first Pizza King , if I remember it right, was on the south east corner of Rt.'s 9 and 37, back when 37 was a two lane road.

Anyhow, thanks for the view.

Bob
