Paint info needed
What would be a good paint for the top of my boat and for the fiberglass floor of the boat?
|
if going all white PPG's single stage Concept is tough to beat and if you need a great color that goes with anything use ppg's 91050 its a very clean white thats not hars or overly bright.
I think i broke some kinda record this week with how many different threads i've suggested Concept in lol :D |
ya dave i have seen you recommended that stuff alot this week...LOL
Single stage is the way to go if your doing it your self for the 1st time |

i hope all these guys painting there boats are getting someone with some experience behind the gun to lend a hand....i think i have said " if this is your fist time working with auto paint i do not recommend you start with your boat" as many times as you have recommended PPG :drink:

Tell ya what as long as i have been on here and with all the tech questions i have fielded it amazes me the ambition of some of the do it yourselfers. Seen some pretty big projects get tackled quite successfully with a little direction and a lot of determination. I think its great. |
The boat is an 89 Chris Craft 260 and I want to repaint a red area around the hatch on the nose. Is it possible to brush it on and still get a good result? Thanks Dave for the info.
|
unfortunatly no brushing a finish like that would not work to well. You could brush and tip Awl-Grip with good results, I've not done it but have seen some amazing results. I'm sure there must be a tutorial online or youtube or something.
I know the area on the 260 Scorp deck you are talking about, I miss my 'ol 260 one of the funnest boats i have ever had dollar for dollar. :D |
Dave,
Do you get any royalties from PPG? You should.:grinser010: |
why is ppg so great? Is there any other single stages you have used? DuPont? Just curious as to what makes it so great.
Also thinking of trying to painting my formula in the spring haha cant deal with the faded black anymore. :) |
the main reason i throw caution to everyone is i had a buddy this summer order a white BC/CC kit off ebay and painted his truck white( because his was purple and everyone was making fun of him) with a gun he got on loan from a guy. Well i'm at the bar one night and i over a few laughing cuz the truck was in such bad shape. The next day i get the call for help. This thing was sprayed so dry that we spent 4 days (2guys) wet sanding and buffing.....and this was just to get it to look half way decent. If he had called me the night he sprayed it i could have prevented most if not all of this. He saved a good buck on the paint and it looks OK now. He watched a few things on utube before he went at it.......but he quickly found out the hard way there is no replacement for a guy that has done this stuff sitting on a stool drinking beer offering up some suggestions. The thing he was most upset about was that if we had to redo the truck was all the time he spent preping was gone....and would have to be done all over again. I just always tell people to due a snowmobile hood or a tank and fender set 1st just to get the fell of things. I could not imagine the amount of work it would have taken if this guy had sprayed a boat the way he did his truck.....but the again the majority of a boat is flat panels.........BREAK OUT THE DA AND MUD HOG!!!
