Skaters/MTIs w/ Tilt Trailers

Anyone with a Skater or MTI that sits on a Tilt Trailer,, I have a question for you..???? Whats it like to trailer your boat tilted on its side 2 or 3 days and 1000s of miles to a poker run across open highway? Is it nerve racking? Do u have to worry about going under any bridges?....

Also, does the paint on your Skater/MTI get damaged or chipped by road debris or loose gravel being tilted on its side traveling so many miles?.......:drink:

Mastercraft240 01-25-2011 12:36 AM

Oh my god dude. STOP!!!!!! How old are you? I'm guessing your 17, located in long island restoring a minhawk..............? Sound similar.

Skaters and MTI's dont get damaged - they come with a special coating from the factory that resists chips. They are the only two manufacturers.

This is why the OSO gods should give us the ability to "IGNORE" certain members!

PR388... please stop posting for the good of this website! Shouldn't you be in school anyway? :)

PR388-

You may have missed a few of the disclaimers when you signed up to OSO…..

Unless you are a certain age, and have a high post count you’re not allowed to ask certain questions. You are not allowed to use the internet or any forums where the experts spend their time so you may also learn about a sport you seem to have an interest in. They will decide what questions you can ask and you can’t.

You are however able to read all the various posts here that are almost never opinionated or speculative by all the gods on here that came out of womb experts in everything offshore, and most likely experts in life period.

Please disengage your keyboard at once, and welcome to OSO.

Actually, it's probably a good question, even though he is related to Darr. :lolhit:

The trailer that is used for Predator is built by Lugo. It is completely covered on the bottom of the trailer, so nothing gets through. Sometimes on long trips, the bottom side will be covered, but it peels off easy as soon as we get there. The scoops are always plugged.

interesting...is there a maximum angle that the engines can see before damage ensues (oil, etc)? always wondered that...id be also interested in seeing how the boat attaches to the trailer that allows the range of motion as well as boat launching capabilities...havent seen too many tilting trailers

Wet sump engines need to be drained first. Most tilt boats have dry sump engines. Oil is for the most part stored in the tank. Gas tank vents need to be on the high side also not not loose gas out the vents.

Wow!!! That is really cool how those trailers work. Somebody was really creative and had an imagination to come up with the first trailer like that.

Take a close look at that middle picture in post #19. Look real close at the transom. You can tell everyone it's your boat.

The motors are dry sumped, and every breather is on the high side, including both fuel fills. The gas is drained from the carb bowls but that is it. A bunch of ratcheting tie downs are used to hold it down.

It's an operation, but people freak when it starts to tilt....:drink:

GD will always be one of the best looking boat/tilt/rig setups...

Not a fan of the paint on Zuperman, but still looks great on GD's old trailer/rig setup...

In watching the video of Freedom going to FL that trailer doesn't tilt and the boat has a wide beam. Do you have to pull permits for that?

So people in both the fast lane (left lane) and people on the other side of the interstate can see the deck of the boat, not the bottom.
We did The Nashville Catz the same way.

You do if you dont want a big azz ticket and a trip to the 'you-no-go-lot'! :coolcowboy:

animalhouse 01-25-2011 03:32 PM

permits are a must unless tilted. The Tilt trailer is 120K average, flat is 35K average, but factor in the average cost RI to Miami permits 1000.00 each way, plus the travel restrictions on nights and weekends, the tilt isn't too unreasonable.

So with a tilt are there no restrictions ?

as long as you can tilt the boat to within 8'6" wide and 13'6" tall, there are no restrictions
