Default 496HO ECM Repair?

I have a 496HO that went swimming and messed up the computer. I will not even turn the fuel pump on... Anyone know if it can be repaired?? I tried a different one and the motor ran perfect. If not, does anyone have a spare laying around they want to sell for a VERY small donation...

Chances are the ECM is toast internally , but you could try to open the back cover and use some good non-residue contact cleaner like CRC or equal and let it dry with some air or air blasts. Clean the three plug female connectors also and give it a try again.
If you need a new ECM, there are no cheap ones , when on the used market they sell for about $500 to $1000 and new ones go for about $1500. Obviously very expensive when boat parts that are not supposed to go swimming make a splash!

put in a vacum sealer like you use for storing food. Water turns to vapor when pressure decreases. I have done this to several water soaked electronic items and it has brought them back to life.

I'm surprised that doesn't damage the electronic components. For some reason I keep thinking the capacitors are gonna expand or split.

the electrolite in the capacitor more than likely doesnt care/react to about 15psi. No data to back this up tho.

BUT

Its kinda one of those "Well the damm thing dosent work any how, maybe this will work" ideas....

Done it to several cell phonse, those fancy push button clusters boat mfgs are going to instead of the good old toggle switch, ect.

True!!! When I eventually dunk my cell phone, I pull the battery and stick the phone in a zipper bag full of uncooked rice for a week. The rice is supposed to absorb the moisture. Didn't work on the phone that went through the wash though

The very first thing I told the mechanic was the bag of rice trick!! Haha!! He thought I was nuts...But, said he would do it for the weekend... Talked to Eric at Simon MotorSports and he said he was 90% sure he could fix it... So that is really good for everyone to know in the future.... BTW, Thanks for that link... But, A box of rice is WAY cheaper, I'll let everyone know how it works out....LOL

Thanks again, Derek
