Agreed! He made total crap, I sent SEVERAL BG 280's and
400's back to them and EVERY one "needed?" a new motor, the one pump I sent back, some punk who answered the phone told me I MUST have used it in a "mudbogger or offroad vehicle". I told him it had been sitting on a SHELF since the last time BG rebuilt it, I only sent it back because I wanted the "newer" style [billet] motor top. Of course, this was just a "misunderstanding" and got swept under the rug.

According to the carb guys I know, Barry Grant worked for Charlie [Avanti fuel systems] then one day his Dad/Mom or wifes parent/parents passed away and all of a sudden up pops "Barry Grant fuel systems". All he did before starting his own carb "expert" business was answer the phone.

He spent a TON of cash on advertising [look at the full page ads in EVERY issue of National Dragster] and I think thats how he built his customer base, sadly, he didn't keep them for very long. I feel sorry for a small business going broke, but, its LONG overdue for those guys.

If you want a carb done right, talk to Patrick James at Pro Systems, and if money is NO object then there is NO ONE better than Phillip Beshears.

Bye Bye Barry!

Back in 99 or 2000, he built a couple of 1050's for me that worked well and did as they were supposed to. That was my last contact with him. Drove up to his shop to pick them up and met him once. He was pleasant and nice enough, but people's work will suffer under financial pressure.

I am surprised he made it this far after he lost the Holley litigation.

I read a nasty thread on drag racing forum that you can't buy rebuild parts for his fuel pumps. You had to send the pump back to have it rebuilt. Most guys were livid about this. A BG rep came onto the thread and tried to defend this practice by saying it was for safety reasons, because of the dangers of fuel and fires. They pretty much ripped this guy to shreads, just like some of the OSO hounds do here. One drag racer said...I built my Mustang from the ground up that goes 0-200 mph in the quarter and I can't rebuild a fuel pump????

Guys were complaing about having to have a spare pump in the trailer, then if one failed you would have to send it off and the turn around time sucked. The only way to be safe at the track was to own three. One on the car, one in the trailer, and one sent off being rebuilt.
You were screwed if you ran two pumps ...

I have a BG400 in the hot rod and after reading that thread I wasn't going to have it fixed when it failed, I would have shopped for another brand. My boat has a mallory marine pump and I put brushes in it last year, just as a precaution because it had 200 hrs on it.
