Jay, not sure if anything has changed but they told me not to bother. You will never get all the salt and corrosion out. Do you have home owners?

might get some covered on home owners, most policies have a limit of 500 or 1000 bucks on photography equipment that is unscheduled ( much like a jewelery rider) at least that is how mine is, i have my lenses scheduled, and my body falls in the standard provisions

Happened today around lunchtime in Card Sound.

Sorry. It was taken earlier today and kindly forwarded to me by one of my rescuers.

On the positive side, it wasn't 'all' the gear, just most of the good stuff-
two camera bodies, two high-end lenses, 5 batteries, remote trigger, memory cards, tripod...

I did manage to save the camera bag.

LMAO. Thanks for the chuckle, Paul.

I borrowed an aluminum jon boat to get out and shoot some water level shots of the guys in the FPC run to Islamorada today. The plan was to tie up to the structure and shoot from it (I know it's illegal- I was only planning to be there for 45 minutes). Water was too choppy and structure was waay too gnarly for a backside attack, so I went to Plan B...

If I have a camera in my hand, it's like Pavlov's dog for me when I hear big blocks and see roostertails coming my way.

When I saw that lead pack approaching I forgot where I was and just concentrated on them like I always do... I had psyched myself up all week to get some cool new shots, so it was kinda like I had been waiting for days... and I just got stupid for 15 or 20 seconds

I had positioned myself where (I thought) I would be far enough away from the channel, but the wind was stiff and blew me too close... when the first couple of wakes hit the bow of the boat it lifted it and a wave hit the stern about the same time. It was down instantly.

Feeling kinda stoopid right now.

.

I'm sure the bodies are scrap, but if you're talking real high end lenses (400 mm F2.8, 600 mm F4, etc) they might still be worth the swim... or at least I would be swimming for them anyway!
